- 92 Punkte, Halliday Wine Companion, Dave Brookes (04/23): “Cabernet sauvignon from the Willunga foothills. Shows a deep crimson hue and lifted aromas of bright blackcurrant and blackberry fruits along with hints of baking spices, licorice, blackcurrant jubes, dried herbs, sarsaparilla, cloves, mint and pipe tobacco. Pure black fruit on the palate segues to a savoury palate shape with a nice cadence, tight, fine tannins and a herb-flecked blackcurrant pastille exit.“

- 92 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: „Here’s a ripe, savory and minty McLaren Vale cabernet. Surprising freshness and vitality in spite of the bold and full personality of the wine. Excellent integration of healthy tannins, bright acidity and a touch of minerality at the long finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.“

- 90 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Erin Larkin: „The 2019 Mother's Ruin Cabernet Sauvignon hails from McLaren Vale and is a great value (i.e., under $30AUD) Cabernet. The label helps (although we all know that it shouldn't), and depicts a 1750 extract of Gin Lane, by painter William Hogarth. It is grotesque and satirical, although skewed heavily to the black side of the scale—the painting depicts the debauchery and riotous nature of drinking cheap gin in profusion, as was done in London around this time. I've never understood what the connection to McLaren Vale Cabernet could possibly be, but it's an engaging piece of artistic commentary nonetheless. The wine is juicy and varietal, with cassis and licorice and fennel. Layers of milk chocolate tannins and graphite shape the wine. Smart.“

Notizen des Weinguts: This well balanced expression of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon is an ode to the ‘luncheon claret’, but it’s not as green and austere as the favourite lunchtime libation at the gentleman’s club. The fruit is from 2 vineyards with good breeding in the foothills and the resulting wine has been made in a fruit driven style this vintage. It has classic First Drop drinkability, so bottoms up!
