Lieber Max Mustermann,

die Bordeaux Weine aus dem Top-Jahrgang 2015, die man am Markt noch bekommt, werden langsam weniger. Unlängst habe ich einen sehr interessanten Wein gefunden, den ich Ihnen nicht vorenthalten möchten:


CHATEAU CAPBERN 2015
St. Estephe; 13,5 % vol
0,75 l @ 23,90 Euro (31,87 €/l) inklusive Mwst
68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot und 4 % Petit Verdot; durchschnittlich 20 Jahre alte Reben; ein Teil der Weinberge liegt bei Calon Segur und Phelan Segur, der zweite Teil bei Meyney; Gärung und Malolaktik in Edelstahl; Ausbau in 60 % neuen, französischen Barriques für ca. 18 Monate.

- 93 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: "Produced by the team of Calon Ségur, this wine is stylish and elegant while also full of the Saint-Estèphe tannic structure. Fresh and fruity, it is also firm and tannic. Drink this spicy, juicy wine from 2025."

- 17,5 Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON: "Tasted blind. Very dark crimson. Focused, quite intense nose. Lovely rich fruit on the front palate. Then quite a mass of tannin but well covered by the glorious fruit. Not that much made. VGV en primeur."

- JEB DUNNUCK: "A ROCKING WINE from the northern Médoc is the 2015 Château Capbern and it’s 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot brought up in 60% new barrels. This medium to full-bodied, ripe, impressively concentrated beauty boasts outstanding notes of ripe black cherry and currant fruits intermixed with lots of crushed flower and damp earth/clay-like nuances. It has terrific purity and ripe, yet present, tannin and will benefit from a couple years in the cellar. It’s a little gem that WILL BE LOVED BY OLD-SCHOOL BORDEAUX LOVERS. Tasted twice."

- 92 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: "This is structured and very linear with superfine and polished tannins. It’s full-bodied yet reserved and held back with such tension and focus. Full-bodied, fine and chewy on the finish. Better in 2020."

- 91-93 Punkte FALSTAFF, Peter Moser: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung, einladende schwarze Kirschenfrucht, zarte Kräuternote, reife Pflaumen, ein Hauch von Orangenzesten. Saftig, rund und elegant, feine Tannine, finessenreiche Struktur, ausgewogen und anhaltend, würziger Nachhall, ein vielseitiger Speisenbegleiter."

- JoS, verkostet im Juli 2020: "Kräftiges Rubinrot mit aufhellendem Rand; in der Nase klassische Stilistik, angenehme Aromen von dunklen Beeren, Cassis, Brombeeren, Lakritze, Kräutern, dunkle Schokolade, Mineralien; am Gaumen mit kräfitgen Tanninen von guter Qualität, mittlere Säure, mittelgewichtig+, sehr mineralisch, feincremige Textur, tolle Struktur, sehr balanciert, toller Energie, lebendig, sehr mundwässernd, stimmig, gute Komplexität, langer Abgang. Profitiert von Dekantieren. Zalto Bordeaux Glas."


Chateau Capbern war bekannt unter den Namen Chateau Capbern-Gasqueton. Es gehörte bis 2012 der Familie Gasqueton, genauso wie auch das noch deutlich berühmtere Schwesterweingut Chateau Calon Segur. Nach dem Ableben der legendären Madame Denise Gasqueton wurde das Weingut von der Familie verkauft, an das französische Versicherungsunternehmen Survanir. Auch Chateau Petrus Eigner und der Negociant Duclot sind an Capbern beteiligt. Ab 2014 wurde der Name Gasqueton aus der Chateau Bezeichnung entfernt. Die 33 ha Weinberge wurden unter der neuen Führung optimiert. Bei den Gebäude und Keller war keine Renovierung notwendig, da bereits 2011 vor dem Verkauf in die Anlagen investiert wurde. Die Rebfläche verteilt sich auf 52 % Cabernet Sauvigon, 46 % Merlot und 2 % Petit Verdot. Die Reben sind durchschnittlich 20 Jahre alt, ein Teil der Weinberge liegt bei Calon Segur und Phelan Segur, der zweite Teil bei Chateau Meyney. Die Gärung und Malolaktik findet in Edelstahl statt, der Ausbau in 60 % neuen, französischen Barriques für ca. 18 Monate. Nach wie vor wird Chateau Capbern als Top Value mit klassischer St. Estephe Stilistik gesehen.

It has a deep, dark, earthy, classic Saint-Estèphe bouquet that gives up lots of cassis and almost blue fruits as well as ample chocolate, damp earth, and leafy herb-like aromas and flavors. With a full-bodied, rich, opulent mouthfeel, loads of sumptuous dark fruits, sweet tannins, and a great finish, this brilliant 2018 brings lots of fruit and opulence, yet stays weightless and balanced, with solid underlying structure. A hidden gem in the vintage, this is every bit as good as the 2016, and it's going to shine for two decades or more."
- 92 Punkte DECANTER, Jane Anson: "A tasty, extremely appetising Capbern that, after tasting, makes you you already look forward to drinking in bottle. It has a real elegance to its black fruits, and the tannins have a softness and succulence to them, leading on to a mouthwatering finish. Harvest took place between 19 September and 8 October, around one week earlier than in a classic year according to Laurent Dufau, and yielding 37hl/ha. 3.7pH. 60% new oak. Drinking Window 2024 – 2036"
- 92-94 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: "Barrel Sample. This spicy wine is rich in a black currant flavor, yet balanced by bright acidity. It's a fine wine that will develop well."
- 91-93 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "The 2018 Capbern is composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot and comes in at 14.6% alcohol. It's anticipated to age for 16 months in barriques, 60% new. Deep purple-black in color, it leaps from the glass with vibrant scents of black raspberries, kirsch and fresh blackcurrants with nuances of cedar chest, pencil lead and forest floor plus a waft of lavender. Full-bodied, rich and packed with juicy fruit, it has a firm line of grainy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing with an herbal lift."
- 17 Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON, Julia Harding: "62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot. pH 3.75, 60% new oak. Barrel sample. Deepest purple. Dark and stony, lovely slaty nose. Firm, chalky, dense and still with lovely freshness. Not the same richness as the 2009 but with great purity and definition. More serious, less seduction. Long and great structure. So pure in its dark cassis fruit. Cool with a touch of liquorice on the finish."

- 92 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: "Soft, open and fruity, this is an attractive wine from an estate owned by Calon-Ségur. There are some tannins, although they are cushioned by the rich black berry fruits and sweet structure. The wine is generous, almost ready to drink."
- 90 (17) Punkte DECANTER: "Great purity of Cabernet dominated fruit, firm flavours with fine depth, precision, structure and length, very good indeed, classed growth standard. 2016-2026."

CHATEAU CAPBERN GASQUETON 2011 0,75 l @ 22,00 Euro (29,33 €/l)
- 93 Punkte in der aktuellen Ausgabe des DECANTER Magazins “Bordeaux Guide 2021”, Artikel “2011 Revisited”: "An elegant, lightly smoked feel makes this an excellent reflection of what you can find in the 2011 vintage – sculpted fruit and not too muscle-bound. A great wine, good value and pretty much ready to go. Shows how well the classified St. Estephes may age if we can wait a few more years. Drink 202-2036. 13% vol.”
- 92 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: "Firm and structured, this wine, produced by the same team as classed growth Calon-Ségur, has solid architecture. It does also have fine fruitiness and acidity but it is the shape that impresses. Given time, it will develop into an elegant wine. Drink from 2018."
- RENE GABRIEL: "Dunkles Granat, recht satt in der Mitte, rubiner Rand. Florales Cabernetbouquet, defensive Süsse, erstaunlich intensive Aromatik, zeigt sich nobel. Herrliche Brombeerentöne, in all dem beginnenden Charme spürt man im Finale dann doch noch feine Saint-Estèphe-Körner. Spannender Wein aus gleichem Hause wie Calon-Ségur."
