Bara’s Grand Rosé is an unusual combination of both saignée and blending: it begins with a base of saignée pinot noir, to which is added a small portion of the Brut Réserve blend as well as a little bit of Bouzy rouge, resulting in a rosé champagne that’s mostly, but not quite entirely, pinot noir. Pinot noir dominates in the vintage brut as well, usually comprising 90 percent of the blend, with ten percent of chardonnay added for finesse. While the vintage wines increase in complexity, each offering their own individual character, they share the same combination of generosity and harmony as the non-vintage cuvées.
Paul Bara’s champagnes are classic examples of Bouzy, with a full body and an ample, fruity ripeness thanks to pinot noir grown on the village’s warm, south-facing slopes. At the same time they demonstrate an unusual refinement and finesse, and despite the absence of malolactic, these champagnes are rarely aggressive - they tend to feel velvety in their depth of fruit and seamless in their integration of components from beginning to end. All of Bara’s wines are pure Bouzy and 100-percent grand cru, since they own no other parcels."

Kirsch, rose petal, mint, chalk and white pepper all open in the glass, but what impresses most about the Rosé is ist impeccable balance. Tis is such a classy Champagne. Relativ schlanke, eher herbe Frucht, verhältnismäßig ruhiges, mittelfeines Mousseux, nussige Aromen, ganz leicht floral und ein wenig gewürzig, hefige Töne, etwas Gerbstoff, gute Nachhaltigkeit, wirkt nur ein wenig gedeckt, moderate Dosagesüße, dann auch gewisse Wärme, florale Nuancen, ein Hauch Kandis, sehr guter, recht saftiger Abgang mit Griff und Würze."

Bright and punchy, the Rosé fleshes out beautifully in the mid-palate and into the finish as the Pinot gains volume. The Grand Rosé has enough charm to drink well as an aperitif, but there is serious depth here too. Cranberry, orange peel, dried rose petal and a hint of cinnamon develop over time. The Grand Rosé is simply impeccable from start to finish. More importantly, it is absolutely delicious. Disgorged: December, 2019."
