-  100 Punkte The Drinks Business, Colin Hay (08/2026): Divine aromatically and utterly ethereal. We’re in the laboratory at the back of the florists where the florist is concocting and concentrating the floral essences in their purity and we have the fresh petals alongside. Violet, lily of the valley, a little wild thyme and the hint of coolness that imparts. So gracious, the tannins so filigree. Intensely layered. Reasonably ample. Crushed blueberries, wrapped in velvet with freshly grated dark black chocolate. Delightful and sublime but with massive aging potential.“

- 98 Punkte FALSTAFF, Peter Moser (09/2026): “ Elegant, distinguished bouquet with cedar, cassis, forest berries, espresso, roasted herbs, tobacco, kirsch and a touch of walnut. Good density, juicy, with fine tannin, good structure and a refined line of acidity. Delicate, nuanced red-to-black berry fruit with currants, cranberries, a touch of menthol, cloves and fine dark chocolate on the finish. Long. A classic Opus One built entirely around finesse.“

- 98 Punkte JANE ANSON, Inside Bordeaux (07/2026): “ A measured, balanced growing season, dry but without the heat spikes of 2022, and this Opus is a pretty stately beast, deep rich purple, intense, structured, edges of violet set against black fruits, cassis, bilberry, damson. This is one of the slowest unrolls that I have had with Opus, it rewards patience to showcase the chalk and slate texture of the tannins, and you can safely put this away for a few years before drinking. Cabernet Sauvignon dominant in terms of its construction and architecture, 95% new oak. A long slow harvest in this exceptional year, from September 14 to October 16, Michael Silacci winemaking director. Sustainable farming initiatives significantly increased in this year, with the addition of Kimberlee Marrineli to the team, including planting of cover crops across the vineyard to lower soil temperature. The oak is a little higher than in the Overture but less evident in the armatics.“

- 98 Punkte DECANTER, Jonathan Cristaldi: „The bouquet is utterly enticing, offering cool blue-fruit notes and a dusting of cocoa-powder freshness that stirs anticipation for the first sumptuous sip. On the palate, satiny richness unfolds, imbued with crunchy red cherry and juicy blackberry fruit, alongside refined sagebrush and tobacco nuances. There is a sense of intricately fine-knit tannins – compact yet impressively integrated at this youthful stage – framed by subtle, refined oak spice. The finish is long and mineral, marked by graphite and a touch of black sea salt. The wine was fermented entirely with native yeasts in stainless steel, with a portion aged in amphora in this vintage, before maturing for 19 months in 95% new French oak. The blend is rounded out by small additions of Malbec and Petit Verdot. In 2023, the vines were farmed regeneratively for the first time, with harvest completed by mid-October.“

- 98 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: “ Another absolute gorgeous wine from this team, the 2023 Opus One offers up cassis, black raspberries, spicy wood, flowers, and graphite in a beautifully layered, complex, nuanced bouquet. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and integrated acidity, this ultra-classic, elegant Opus One will keep for 30-40 years. It's at the same level as the 2010, 2016, and 2021. Drink 2025-2065.“

- 97 Punkte Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent: „Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2023 Opus One needs a lot of swirling and coaxing to lure out notes of black currant jelly, raspberry coulis, and cedar, leading to hints of dark chocolate, licorice, and mint tea. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a firm, grainy texture with great tension and bright, densely packed black and red berry layers, finishing with a minty kick. The blend this year is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, with the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec.“

Notizen des Weinguts: Opus One was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, legendary owner of Château Mouton Rothschild, and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley. Opus One, like any great work, arose out of passion. Dedicated to uncompromised quality, Opus One’s sole purpose is to express this vision and passionate spirit for generations to come. The 2023 vintage The 2023 season opened with early rains, highlighted by a substantial storm ahead of budbreak. Summer remained cool and without notable heat events. Fruit was brought in at an even pace, preserving freshness and balance. Tasting notes Opus One 2023 presents a complex profile with notes of red fruit, cherry blossom, and dried violet. Aromas of vanilla lend grace, while notes of graphite, forest floor, and tobacco portend structure. On the palate, the wine is balanced, framed by silky tannins. Elderberry and cassis unfold, accented by black pepper and chocolate-covered orange peel. The finish carries notes of red plum and sweet oak. A wine of harmony, Opus One 2023 balances structural seriousness with youthful brightness to provide superb aging.
