Notizen des Weinguts: „Eden Valley is a wine region located within the Barossa zone in South Australia. It is situated northeast of the Barossa Valley and is known for its cool climate and diverse microclimates, making it ideal for growing a wide range of grape varieties. While often associated with the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley has its own unique characteristics and reputation as a premium wine-producing region. While Shiraz is a dominant grape in both Eden and Barossa Valley, the style of Shiraz from Eden Valley tends to be more elegant and refined, with red fruit characteristics and peppery notes. The region’s picturesque landscape features rolling hills and vineyards, creating a beautiful setting for wine enthusiasts to explore. Eden Valley’s reputation for producing high-quality wines, especially Riesling and Shiraz, has garnered attention from wine lovers worldwide, and it remains a sought-after destination for wine tourism and appreciation of exceptional Australian wines.
Made since 2015, with fruit sourced from one of the highest vineyards on top of Menglers Hill. Charlie’s Garden is quintessentially Eden Valley Shiraz, with a soft bouquet of red fruits and fresh cut flowers with a moderately powerful fruit profile that finishes with an amazing minerality. The landscape and gumtrees that surround this vineyard were a natural inspiration for the colour of this label.
VINE AGE: 13-84 years. ALTITUDE: 460-490m. AVERAGE RAINFALL: 800mm. SOIL: Quartz, gravelly loam and silty loam over yellow clay. VINIFICATION: Fermented in a five tonne open top fermenter, with regular pump overs twice daily to control ferment, extract colour, flavour and tannins. Average time ‘on skins’ was 10 days before the free run juice was drained to tank and the pressings combined. The wine was then racked to barrel, where malolactic fermentation took place. Charlie’s Garden was bottled unfined and unfiltered. MATURATION: Aged for 16 months in up to 25% in new French oak. With the remainder in 1-4 year old French oak puncheons & hogsheads.“
- 94 Punkte, Halliday Wine Companion, Tyson Stelzer: „Two Hands' Garden Series snapshots the mood of 6 shiraz regions, adapting winemaking to highlight the character of each. This is one of the best, quintessential Eden Valley, in all of its spicy, dark-berried glory, thanks to 10–81yo vines on Mengler's HIll at 460–490m elevation. Wonderful violet fragrance permeates a long palate in a sea of fine-boned tannins, dark chocolate oak and bright acidity.“
- 93 Punkte Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Joe Czerwinski: „Marked by notions of juniper and bay leaf, the 2019 Charlie's Garden Shiraz does capture that unique herbal essence often found in Eden Valley Shiraz, then backs that up with dark blueberry and blackberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's round and ripe, supple and already appealing but with the backbone to take it through at least a decade of positive evolution. 2021-2033.“
