- Notizen des Weinguts: „Côte 128 Viognier Pech Sevignac is named for the average altitude of the vineyard on the hillside ("pech" in the old Occitan language) of Sevignac, as referenced on the ordinance survey maps of the region. We harvest Viognier by night, to retain freshness, and only use the first pressings of the juice to make this wine. It's a wine that works well with summer dishes, from salads to fish or a mixed cheese plate. Bon appetit!
Over the years our vineyards have extended and fragmented. Time has proven that some small islets systematically produce juices of higher quality than the others. We decided to isolate them and vinify them separately. We have chosen to present them under a combination of the name “Côte” and the number, which is the average altitude of the blocks (Côte 128, Côte 136, Côte 238).
Vinification & Aging: We select specific parcel and we harvest at night to preserve the aromatic potential of the berries. Fermentation at 16 - 17 ° in tanks and then we age the wine in stainless steels tanks and part of the wine in oak barrels (30% new and 50% old).
Tasting notes: „Great typicity with added complexity from the time in oak. Pear, acacia and tropical fruits, with elegant, spiced notes on the finish.“
- LAURENT MIQUEL: "Our catalogue is enriched with a new collection: Les Côtes. Some small islets in our vineyards systematically produce juices of higher quality than the others. We decided to isolate them and vinify them separately in order to deliver them under the name "Côte": 128, 238 and 136. These 3 numbers are used by the Domain for identification and represent the average altitude of each plot."
- TIM ATKIN MW über Laurent Miquels gutes Händchen im Umgang mit der Rebsorte Viognier: „Viognier is a tricky grape to get right. Pick it too late and it can be flabby, pick it too early and it lacks the texture and richness that are its hallmarks. Laurent Miquel is one of only a handful of people outside the northern Rhône Valley who consistently gets the variety spot on.“

- 17 Punkte jancisrobinson.com und "Good Value", Tamlyn Currin: "Full bottle 1,390 g. Certified sustainable (HVE). Fruit from a single vineyard of Viognier grown on their Cazal Viel estate in the southern past of St-Chinian. This vineyard is on limestone soils, and gives lower yields. 20% barrel fermentation in French oak, 30% new. Only free-run and first-press juice.
There is a trace of oak spice on the nose and on the palate, but it's tucked well into the fruit and I don't think it will show in a year or two (which will be, I believe, the best time to drink this wine). Bold, bright apricot fruit, zigzagging with lime-fragrant acidity, develops into golden-Rainier-cherry intensity with a touch of peach stone and green almond. There is a gentle, subtle crescendo in the mouth as the silvery acidity weaves in and out through the flavours, drawing sweet-leaf vineyard herbs and a trace of soft but mouth-watering bitterness in its wake. Silky finish. GV (TC). 2024-2028."
- Empfohlen von John Wilson in „The Irisch Times“ im Artikel „Top 20 christmas wines“: „This has to be one of the best value white wines at the moment (…) Even if you aren't a fan of Viognier, you will be seduced (…) Fresh, succulent peach and nectarine fruits (…) Mouth-watering citrus acidity (…) with Thai prawns, seared salmon and crab dishes.“

VINTAGE CONDITIONS The 2024 vintage was shaped by unpredictable weather in the Languedoc, with a dry winter, cool and rainy spring, and a late start to summer posing challenges throughout the growing season. Careful vineyard management, especially canopy control, helped mitigate disease risks brought by spring humidity and inconsistent ripening. Despite mid-August heat spikes, late August rains refreshed the vines, setting the stage for a successful harvest at both Château Cazal Viel and Château Auzines |
