- 92 Punkte, DECANTER Georgina Hindle (12/2023): „Clear and clean in the glass, a light colour, almost translucent. Floral and fruity, notes of roses and violets with raspberries and red cherries. High acidity, salty, gripping tannins and a menthol undercurrent. Quite a pretty, delicate take on the vintage for Pomerol, really haven't pushed this, tannins are a touch grippy and grainy but this balances out to a finish with high-toned red berry fruit and lots of wet stone salty, minerality. Not super long, but very enjoyable.“

- 92 Punkte JANE ANSON: „Cheerful ruby red colour. Fresh acidities but plump red fruits to accompany. Certainly a fresher expression of Bourgeneuf than in the last few years, but it has Pomerol signature and balance, and is well constructed, where you can see it will smooth out further over ageing. Charming, medium term drinking. Owned by the Vayron family. Tasted twice.“

- 92 Punkte, James Suckling (07/2024): “Currants, dried flowers, lemon zest and sliced chilis on the nose. Firm and tight-knit tannins provide excellent structure here. Bright, tight and medium-bodied. Try from 2025.“

- 92 Punkte, VINOUS, Neal Martin (11/2023): „The 2021 Borugneuf has one of the better sets of aromatics on the nose, with a sense of brightness, eclat: black cherries intermixed with blueberry, violet and shavings of black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry and fine depth, quit peppery in style with ample weight and delineation on the finish. Conspicuously spicy on the aftertaste, this is a Pomerol that I would like to have in my cellar. 2025-2040“

- 91+ Punkte, Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, William Kelley (02/2024): The 2021 Bourgneuf has turned out better than I anticipated, and one senses its proximity to Trotanoy more clearly than was the case from barrel. Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, cherries and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with good depth at the core, framed by sweet structuring tannins. While it will offer plenty of near-term appeal, don't discount its capacity to age.“

- 91 Punkte FALSTAFF, Peter Moser: „Kräftiges Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, dezente Randaufhellung. Rotbeerig, frische Kirschen, ein Hauch von Mandarinen, etwas Nougat. Mittlerer Körper, süße Zwetschken, reife Tannine, mineralisch-salziger Abgang.“

Notizen des Weinguts: Owned by the Vayron family since 1821, this lovely vineyard is situated in the heart of Pomerol’s most prestigious terroirs, with Château Trotanoy as its neighbor. Since 2008, the wine is made by the youngest Vayron to join the family venture, Frédérique, the daughter of current owners Xavier and Dominique. Formed by a gentle, sloping plot, the west-facing vineyard enjoys ideal sun exposure, thanks to which some of its parcels were spared from the great frost of 1956. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines, of an average age of 40 years, are planted on gravelly clay enhanced by an iron-rich subsoil. The vineyard is maintained traditionally and conscientiously throughout the year. Vinification takes place in thermo-regulated concrete tanks, and aging is carried out in oak barrels (35% new) for 12-14 months. Situated in one of the warmest parts of Pomerol, Château Bourgneuf produces wines that are deep and dense, layered and complex, with perfectly rounded tannins. The wine’s ripe fruit aromas make it seductive when young, but a few years of cellaring are strongly rewarded. 2021 Vintage The 2021 vintage demanded careful attention throughout the year, but the challenge united the vigneronnes and vignerons who produced, thanks to their efforts, a crop of good quality. Fastidious vineyard work, a gentle approach in the cellar, attention to detail and judicious decision-making were key in producing charming, delicate, elegant wines. The rainy and mild winter brought on an early and uneven budbreak. This early development put the young buds at great risk of a spring frost, such as the one that occured during the nights of the 6th and 7th of April, when temperatures dropped to -3 and -4°C, but the vineyard of Château Bourgneuf was spared. Flowering unfolded very nicely at the end of May, but the heterogeneity from budbreak persisted. June and July were mostly gloomy with a few gorgeous hot and sunny episodes in the middle of each month. Veraison occurred slowly. August was dry and nearly caught up the summer’s lack of sunshine. Over the summer, vineyard work (green harvesting, leafplucking, secondary shoot removal...) helped to even out ripeness among the grape clusters. Harvest took place from September 27th to October 4th under favorable conditions, with optimal maturity reached on most parcels.
