100 % Chardonnay der Premier Cru Einzellage Monts Ferres in Vertus; sehr alte Reben; Vinifikation in Pieces Bourguignonnes, nur 3600 Flaschen produziert; Dosage Extra Brut 0,8 g/l, degorgiert 5/2024 und somit 6 Jahre auf der Hefe in der Flasche gelagert;
- 95 Punkte James Suckling (07/2025): “ Very tight and stony, almost austere, in its lime-zest aromas, then turning buttery and toasty with chalky minerality and a whiff of pastry. Medium-bodied, long and chewy. The savory palate of baked apples is crisp and gastronomic. Persistent mineral finish. Drink or hold.“
- 94 Punkte Meiningers Sommelier (Ausgabe 4/2025): „rauchig, eher dunkle Art, leicht maritim, Unterholz; viel Umami, krafvoll, dicht , stoffig, leichte Süße, die für Balance sorgt, tabakiges Finale mit feinem Tannin, gute Länge.“
- 93 Punkte Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Kristaps Karklins (12/2024): „Sourced from four plots within the same lieu-dit in Vertus, the 2017 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Monts Ferrés was disgorged in June 2024 with 0.8 grams per liter dosage. The richest and most powerful wine in the cellar this year, it derives from vines heavily affected by le court-noué virus, delivering fruit with more concentrated flavors and higher maturity. Vinified in oak and aged under cork, it is full-bodied and gourmand, soaring from the glass with aromas of plum, red apple and toasted hazelnut. Demonstrative and broad, balanced by vibrant acidity, it has a slightly autumnal character and is less focused than Voie d'Oger, the other lieu-dit bottling, which benefits from the 2016 vintage in this tasting. 2024-2034.“
This estate is blessed with 10.2 hectares (9.4 hectares of Chardonnay and the rest planted with Pinot Noir) of prime holdings in Vertus, Avize, Oger, Aÿ, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant. Their vines—most of which are cordon-pruned (to reduce the yields) and all of which are farmed without herbicides or pesticides—produce intensely concentrated grapes that are selectively pressed and vinified in second-hand barrels from Burgundy or stainless steel, depending on the cuvée, followed by long sur lattes maturation. Yannick Doyard has been making wine here since 1979, but since 2017, it’s Guillaume Doyard who presides here, after taking the reins of the estate following the premature passing of his brother, Charles, who had been in charge of the domaine from 2013 to 2016. Doyard is producing powerful and pleasantly nutty yet precise Champagnes, recently devoting considerable energy to the production of still wines, refining his cooperage choices and nurturing a parcel of recently planted Burgundian massal selection Pinot Noir in Vertus, with ambitious plans for red wine.
Bewertung für den Jahrgang 2016:
- 97 Punkte, Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, William Kelley (12/2023): „Disgorged this year with 0.6 grams per liter dosage, the 2016 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Monts Ferrés unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp nashi pear, yellow stone fruit, mirabelle plum, buttery pastry, honeycomb and oyster shell. Full-bodied, pure and seamless, it's deep, enveloping and vinous, with a tensile spine of acidity, an ultra-refined mousse and a long, saline finish. Produced from a parcel in Vertus that was farmed organically and biodynamically, this is one of two lieu-dit bottlings produced by Charles Doyard before his untimely passing in 2017. Drink Dte: 2023-2040“
This estate is blessed with 10 hectares of prime holdings in Versus, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, Cramant and Aÿ; and their vines—some of which are cordon-pruned and all of which are farmed without herbicides or pesticides—produce intensely concentrated grapes that are selectively pressed and vinified in wood. Following the premature passing of his brother Charles (whose lieu-dit bottlings finally saw disgorgement this year), it's Guillaume Doyard who presides here, producing deep, concentrated and characterful Champagnes. He's also devoting considerable energy to the production of still wines, refining his cooperage choices and nurturing a parcel of recently planted Burgundian massal selection Pinot Noir in Vertus with ambitious plans for red wine.
