The fruit is so rich, the texture so dense, and deep flavors of chocolate back up the huge structure. It does work in its magnificent, flamboyant way. And at the end, the acidity does its part and gives the wine a final lift. Drink from 2024.“

- 94 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: „The 2012 Cos d'Estournel is beautifully delineated and layered in the glass. A wine of nuance and precision, the 2012 possesses a remarkable combination of richness and detail. A blast of dark red cherry jam, rose petals, mint and cinnamon informs the deep, pliant finish. I imagine the 2012 will offer several decades of very fine drinking. This is a terrific 2012 with a good deal of upside potential.“

- 93+ Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: „The 2012 Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It has a deep garnet-purple color and reveals expressive black cherries, black raspberries and red and black plums scents with subtler notes of cassis, menthol, pencil lead and cigar box plus a touch of lavender. Medium-bodied and elegantly styled, with a rock-solid frame of chewy tannins, it delivers a lively lift on the long finish. This is a lovely wine with slightly chewier tannins and less stuffing than the 2011. Needs 4-5 years.“

- 93 Punkte FALSTAFF: „Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung, feine Anklänge von Cassis und Lakritze, schwarzes Waldbeerkonfit, angenehme Kräuterwürze. Saftig, elegant, gute Komplexität, tragende Tannine, Nougat im Abgang, zeigt gute Länge, Noten von Orangen im Nachhall, hat Zukunft.“

- 18 Punkte RENE GABRIEL: „75 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 22 % Merlot, 2 % Cabernet Franc, 1 % Petit Verdot. 50 % der Ernte ergab Grand Vin. Produktion: 140'000 Flaschen. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Herrliches Kaffeebouquet, Zedernholz, helle Ledernoten, ganz zarter Korinthenschimmer, mitteltief im Ansatz und auch vom Druck her mehr elegant aber irgendwie auch defensiv. Der Gaumen ist fein, zeigt Klasse und eine wunderschöne Balance, die Tannine sind mild gestimmt, nachhaltiges Finale und genau dann, wenn man den Schluss ermittelt, kommen ein paar recht sehnige Muskeln zum Tragen. Das ist dann mehr ein Absender der Appellation Saint Estèphe als ein Merkmal für Cos. Wird sich für einmal tendenziell somit eher klassisch entwickeln. (18/20). 18: In der gleichen Woche verkostete ich auch noch andere 2012er. Dieser Cos weiss zu beeindrucken. Voin der Farbe bis zum Finish. Sehr dunkel und dabei jedenfalls dunkler als viele andere Konkurrenten. Die Nase würzig, deutlich röstig, viel Kaffee und Soyasauce, Schwarzbrot, darunter schwarze Beeren. Im Gaumen konzentriert und fleischig, dabei aber erstaunlich fein bleibend.“

- 93 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: „The 2012 from Cos d'Estournel is a streamlined, elegant version of this cuvée that offers first rate notes of crème de cassis, graphite, smoked herbs and saddle leather, with hints of oak pushed into the background. Supple, medium to full-bodied and charming, yet with enough tannin to warrant short term cellaring, give bottles 5-6 years in the cellaring and enjoy over the following two decades.“

 - 92 Punkte WINESPECTATOR, James Molesworth: „Solid, with pure lilac and violet notes out front, backed by slightly taut plum, currant and bitter cherry flavors that unwind slowly through the finish. This has good drive, cut and intensity, and is one of the better efforts of the vintage.—Non-blind Cos-d'Estournel vertical (December 2015). Best from 2018 through 2028. 15,917 cases made.“

- JANCIS ROBINSON: „Tasted blind. Blackish crimson. Mild and moderate with many a suggestion of attractive ripe fruit. Very opulent and ‘modern’ indeed. Somehow more green than fresh. A little inky on the end but no shortage of ambition. Just finishes a little suddenly.“
