The 2014 is going to need time to fully come together, but it is super-impressive. Tasted two times."

- 94 Punkte DECANTER: "Very deep red. Bold, ripe and fleshy blackcurrant nose steeped in new oak, without being too overbearing. Rich, dense, and flamboyant, very concentrated and intense. Fleshy and forthright, it has a long finish that’s spicy and complex."

- 17+ Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON: "Dark crimson and another fragrant St-Julien: rocky dark fruit, almost floral but too much cassis for that. Terrific cassis intensity on the palate, with dense but velvet-deep tannins, thickly textured at the moment. Chewy and long and just enough freshness."

- 18 Punkte RENE GABRIEL: "60 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 % Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc, 2 % Petit Verdot. 36 hl/ha. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Ich hatte ihn, grad nach dem Barton und Ducru in der Nase. Während die anderen eher leise auftraten war dies ein absolutes Rodeobouquet! Viel schwarze Kirschen, viel Cassis, dunkle Edelhölzer, Arabica-Kaffeetouch. Dahinter aber auch ganz fein grüne Cabernetspuren zeigend. Im Gaumen ein Mund voll Wein, fleischig, stoffig, komplex und reich in allen Belangen. Angefangen mit den reifen, markanten Gerbstoffen über die Konzentration bis hin zum katapultartigen Finale. Unter den Deuxièmes war dies die arroganteste Version. Aber warum darf ein grosser Cru denn keine Ecken und Kanten haben? Vor allem wenn er genau so bestückt ist. Ein nobler Bauer mit Saint-Julien-Power! Wenn er alle Primeur-Versprechungen bis zur Flasche einhält, dann kann er 19/20 pflücken."

It is extremely focused, intense rather than overtly powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and generous, conveying much more tension and precision than the Léoville Las-Cases. It gradually fans out in the second half with real mineralité, quite profound in the context of the vintage. Outstanding. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting."

Notizen des Weinguts:	Comments from the Winemaking Team (July 2016) Colour: deep and bright. Nose: subtle and complex. It reveals notes of red fruit, spices and liquorice upon swirling. Palate: The attack is fresh and intense It is fruity and fleshy on the palate. The finish is supported by fine, racy tannins that are long and integrated, and beautiful volume in the mouth. 2014, a harmonious vintage 2014, A vintage marked by the Indian summer 2014: A prodigious succession of mild weather, humidity, heat and sunshine characterizes the 2014 vintage. The Indian summer helped promote perfect ripeness of the grapes. The winter was exceptionally mild and characterized by high humidity (only 7 days of frost). The beginning of spring was sunnier than usual. Temperatures went up slowly and bud break was early. The vines grew steadily thanks to regular temperatures and rainfall. Flowering was also early, occurring over a period of temperature fluctuations and light rain. June finally experienced a real warming (with peaks above 30°C from the first two days of summer) and even beat the records for temperature and sunshine since 1920 ! With constant heat, July was significantly warmer than June, and recorded only 51mm of rain throughout the month. August was a little cooler, the first half marked by light, regular rainfall.
