- 93-95 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: „Barrel Sample. The 22-acre vineyard is now producing some very fine wines. This latest vintage shows power as well as the luxury of ripe black Merlot. With richness assured, the wine's structure guarantees aging.“
- 95 Punkte James Suckling: „A juicy and linear Pomerol with blackberries, chocolate and hazelnut, but very subtle. Sexy at the same time. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and a savory finish. Dense and layered. Better after 2025 when it opens.“
- 94 Punkte DECANTER, Jane Anson: "Inky plum colour, clear coffee grounds on the attack but this is also full of Pomerol richness, bitter chocolate shavings and damson plum fruit. You are definitely in a concentrated, knitted-down style here with plenty of muscle that delivers appellation signature. Tasted twice. Harvest September 14 to 25. Drinking Window 2027 – 2040"
- 93 Punkte DECANTER, Georgina Hindle: “Gorgeous nose, so expressive with tobacco, dark chocolate, blackcurrants and roses. Ripe and juicy, this has a lovely energy to it, but also quite a mouthcoating tannic frame, fine but firm, well integrated but definitely present and giving the focus right now while the plum, fig, pomegranate and black cherry flavours slowly expand outwards. This has a glamour to it, a shiny side, while still being relatively knitted down. I love the juicy core, it’s so bright and vibrant, but it is being overshadowed by the tannins and the almost dry, cedar edges that linger on the tongue, giving a sharpness and bitterness. Lovely complexity though with nuance and the detail. Well delivered with polish but needs more time.”
- 94 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: "The 2020 Bourgneuf is another terrific wie from the Vayran family. Rich and quite deep, Bourgneuf is a heady Pomerol in 2020, but never abandons its essential classicism. Sumptuous dark-fleshed fruit, spice, chocolate and dried flowers are all dialed up. Readers who have known Bourgneuf for years may find the 2020 a bit over the top. I am really interested to see where this direction goes.”
- 93 Punkte VINOUS, Neal Martin: "The 2020 Bourgneuf has closed up a little on the nose post-bottling: blackberry, graphite, subtle loamy aromas and just a whiff of sea spray. Fine delineation and commendable complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, quite structured and perhaps more “serious” than its showing from barrel. Generous helpings of cracked black pepper enliven the second half, firm grip with a very nicely proportioned finish. This is an excellent Bourgneuf thet should give 20+ years of drinking pleasure."
- 91-93 Punkte FALSTAFF, Peter Moser: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Ockerrandaufhellung. Feine Nuancen von Nougat und Kardamom, ein Hauch von Edelholz, schwarze Kirschen, zart nach Lakritze und frischer Orangenzeste. Komplex, saftig, süße Brombeerfrucht, kräftige Tannine, mineralisch im Abgang, schokoladig im Nachhall, ein feinwürziger Speisenbegleiter."
- 93+ Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: "Coming from a mix of gravel and clay soils and based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Château Bourgneuf has closed down considerably since I tasted it out of barrel. It offers a firmer, more focused, structured style that needs lots of air to show at its best. Ripe black fruits, spicy oak, graphite, and smoked tobacco define the bouquet, and it's tight and backward on the palate, with good extract and length. Hide bottles for 4-5 years, at which point it will evolve nicely for 15 years. Tasted twice.“
