- 20/20 Punkte Weinwisser, Best of Bordeaux 2023 (Ausgabe 04/2026): „Satt, rassig und intensiv ist die Nase, mit viel Teer und Lakritze ausgestattet. Sie zeigt eine dunkelfruchtig-likörige Nuance im Kernaroma sowie ätherische Noten im Obertonbereich. Grandioser, rassiger und intensiver Verlauf im Mund mit wahnsinnig viel Teer und Graphit ohne Ende. Auch enorm viel Grand-Cru-Schokolade ohne jegliche Süße schwingt mit, alles ist ätherisch und komplex, sowie ewig tief ineinander verwoben. Große Intensität und Länge, salzig; auch die Gerbstoffe sind extrem lang und weit verteilt. Dieser Calon-Ségur hat einfach alles, nur nicht die ultrafeine Körnung in den Gerbstoffen. 2028-2063.“

- 97 Punkte, James Suckling: „Intense, perfumed aromas of graphite, blackberries, blueberries and stones follow through to a medium body with dried spices, tobacco, dried flowers and thyme. Typical on the palate as well. Structured and linear, with super length and tension. 72% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 12% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. Give this four or five years. Try after 2029.“

 - 97 Punkte JANE ANSON, Inside Bordeaux: „A total joy, just love the salt scrape and pumice stone, graphite, crushed rocks, liquorice, squid ink, cigar box, cassis, so good. Poise, finesse, drive and forward motion. Precise and confident texture to this wine, has higher levels of both Cabernets in 2023 than in 2022, having reached exceptional maturity, and it delivers the heart and spirit of old school Calon, coupled with violet aromatics and sculpted tannic confidence. The blend for this was built on Cabernet, and you can feel it. 100% new oak, director Vincent Millet. 2032-2050.“

- 96 Punkte DECANTER Georgina Hindle: „Sweet and fresh bramble berry notes on the nose. Some toast, liquorice, dark chocolate, tobacco, cedar and clove. Succulent and supple, this has a lovely energy and focus but with density and bite at the same time. Chalky, fleshy tannins fill the mouth but at the same time as a liquorice and slate flavour lingers on the cheeks. Both fruity and lean and straight at the same time. Not yet so harmonised, but there’s finesse and refinement to the expression and nothing feels out of place or too much. Has a juicy centre and a touch of sweet strawberries that lift the expression which is so pleasant. Ends clean and grippy. It’s very good and you can't fault the refinement, clarity and precision on show. More Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend than last year at 72%. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 55% grand vin production. 3.7pH. 45hl/ha yield. Ageing 20 months, 100% new.“

- 96 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni (03/2026): “ The 2023 Calon Ségur is every bit as impressive as it was en primeur. Today, I find it a bit tight texturally, but that won‘t be an issue in time. Dark-toned fruit, lavender, dried herbs, licorice, menthol, gravel and chocolate are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. Cabernet Sauvignon is very much front and center. The 2023 is a wine of reserve; I wo‘t be surprised if it is even better in a few years. 2033-2065.“

- 96 Punkte Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider: „The black fruits, dark red berries, flowers, licorice, spice, smoke, and crème de cassis in the perfume is a knockout! The wine is rich, balanced, well-defined, supple, creamy, and vibrant. The fruits have weight, depth, length, and purity. The concentrated layers of fruit start off strong, and keep on going. The refreshing waves of red with black fruits, sprig of mint, and touches of spice hang with you for close to 50 seconds in the up-beat finish. The wine blends 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. 14% ABV, 3.7 pH. The harvest took place September 6 - September 30. Only 55% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. Drink from 2030-2060.“

- 95 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: „Checking in as a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in 60% new oak, the 2023 Château Calon Ségur is a big, fleshy, opulent style of Calon that shows the riper side of the vintage. Its deep purple hue is followed by black and blue fruits, smoky tobacco, loamy earth, and graphite on the nose. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has ripe, round tannins and considerable baby fat at this stage, which is rare for a 2023. Give bottles 4-5 years to gain some harmony and elegance, and it should see its 30th birthday in fine form. Drink 2030-2053.“
