Ulysses Vineyard

- Notizen des Weinguts: „Along the Napa Valley’s Oakville bench and extending over an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, the site is exceptional for grape growing.

The soil is composed of deep, gravelly, clay loam and is particularly well-suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon.

Since the acquisition, Christian Moueix and his team have pursued an in-depth understanding of the soil and microclimate and have undertaken a lengthy and meticulous vineyard restoration.

Dry farming, the foundation of Ulysses’ sustainable farming practices, enhances root depth and resistance to drought, resulting in a wine that is a pure expression of its terroir.“

- Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Joe Czerwinski: „Christian Moueix purchased this vineyard—located just north of Dominus—in 2008, with the first vintage bottled under this label in 2012, following some extensive vineyard renovations. Situated on an alluvial fan coming down out of the Mayacamas and formerly part of the historic Charles Hopper Ranch, it covers 40 acres of the Oakville AVA, planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon (90%), with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Dry-farmed and newly certified organic (2021), one of the goals is to express the terroir differences between this site and the Napanook (Dominus) vineyard. The Ulysses Cabernet Sauvignon is made and matured—in approximately 40% new French oak—at Dominus.“
