- 98-100 Punkte Parkers Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "The 2017 Grenache “No Name As Of Yet” is a finished blend, set to be bottled in August. Composed of 76% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 9% Syrah, 3.8% Petit Sirah and 1.2% Viognier, and the vineyard sources are: 46% Cumulus Estate, 29% Eleven Confessions Estate, 6% Molly Aida Estate, 17% The Third Twin Estate and 2% Bien Nacido Vineyard. It was aged for around 23 months in 23% new French oak, 48% used oak (various sizes) and 29% concrete, and 46% (mainly Grenache) was fermented using whole clusters. Medium garnet-purple, this young, bombastic Grenache explodes from the glass with the most incredible perfume: red roses, cinnamon stick, lilacs and crushed black cherries with chocolate box, aniseed, garrigue and dried herbs plus gentle waves of lavender, dusty soil and smoked meats. Full-bodied with an incredibly silky texture, the decadently fruited palate features amazing freshness and vibrancy, finishing with stacks of flavor layers and a provocatively savory/chewy lift coming from the use of whole cluster. Just. Magic. It is anticipated that 1225 cases and 600 magnums will be bottled."
- 97-99 Punkte Jeb Dunnuck: "Not yet bottled, the 2017 Grenache The Gorgeous Victim is based on 76% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 9% Syrah, and the rest Petite Sirah and Viognier. It saw 46% stems (mostly for the Grenache) and will spend 23 months in just 23% new French oak. This full-bodied, gorgeous effort sports a saturated purple hue as well as blockbuster notes of spice box, ground pepper, red currants, and hints of cured meats. This classic, powerful Grenache from Krankl is flawlessly balanced, has plenty of tannins, and delivers a great finish. While it’s going to provide plenty of pleasure in its youth, it will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age."

|Notizen des Weinguts:||Victim might ultimately not be a very apt descriptor for this beauty, but gorgeous certainly is, plus we claim artistic license, ok. If the first wine is like my grandpa would have liked to be, this wine is more like the woman he surely would have loved to stumble upon in the forest…on one of his hunting adventures. This elixir is a pleasing concoction of 76% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 9% Syrah, 3.8% Petite Sirah and 1.2% Viognier…the lipstick of the portrait. Here we fermented the fruit with 46% whole clusters (for some reason – somewhat counter-intuitively even – Grenache seems to love??stems in the fermentation more than Syrah; go figure). Almost all of fruit was Estate grown, except for a tiny bit from our long standing source Bien Nacido. This is the vineyard break-down: 46% is from our CUMULUS terroir; 29% from the ELEVEN CONFESSIONS dirt; 17% was grown in THE THIRD TWIN muck and 6% was gently brought about in the dreck of MOLLY AÏDA. Oh …and 2% came from the lovely Bien Nacido turf. For those not that much on the inside….dirt, muck, dreck and turf are all poetic ways of saying terroir. You are welcome. Since Grenache can be more sensitive to the impact of oak (albeit not an absolute rule) we only employed 23% new French oak and most of them were larger than the typical 228 Liter barriques. And in fact 29% was taught manners in concrete vessels. In Chateauneuf-du-Pape concrete casks are often lined with enamel. Ours are not – the wine kisses the raw stone of sorts. If you have been on our team for a bit I am sure you know that I am a huge fan of Grenache. It can be like a stubborn woman, but hey…at least she’s got something to say. My notes – from the last tasting – read: quite dark – certainly for Grenache – but bright and virtually lacquered looking color. Aromatics are relatively dark fruited too, but deep and enveloping. Lush and pretty and most certainly showing it’s California-ness, of which I am quite proud. As air gets to the wine over time…from sitting in the decanter and glass…it gets more and more expressive. Very soft and supple in the mouth with a spreading, expansive demeanor and a long and re-inviting finish. Madonna help me! Now that I have given you a single, gossiped wishy-washy part of the Krankl history it is even more difficult not come off like a flimflammer, but I have to downright beg you to trust me and don’t miss out on these treats. Yes we are selling; yes we run a business; yes we do encourage you every time; yes we want you to keep your collection whole; yes we want your bucks for our labor of love, but please believe me when I say these are special wines. Don’t let them slip through your fingers, but do let them slip across your palate…underneath your nose. Labels have not been approved yet by the TTB, but we don’t anticipate issues. Last words.|
