- 95 Punkte, James Suckling (10/22): „This has lots of horizontal tannins that provide fine muscle and form. It's medium- to full-bodied with freshness and brightness. Red berries, crushed cloves and other spices. Grapey, for a better word. Sophisticated. Chewy, Needs time to soften. Zinfandel with petite sirah and carignan. Drinkable now, but better with two or three years of bottle age.“

- 94 Punkte DECANTER, Karen MacNeil (09/22): „Very juicy and chewy with mulberry and mocha notes. Paul Draper’s love of old California field blends and his belief that Petite Sirah and Carignane (which Ridge spells in the old California manner with an 'e' at the end) add a complementary intrigue to Zinfandel are at work in the Lytton Springs. Accordingly, the wine is not labelled Zinfandel even though at 79% Zin, it could be. The 10% Carignane adds an earthy, sensual, south-of-France character to the flavour. The Petite Sirah - which is never petite in California - adds power and a wallop of tannin. A very distinct wine, mostly from old vines, some of which date back to 1901. Ridge, which has been making Lytton since 1972, bought the vineyard in the early 1990s.“ Drinking Window: 2024-2035

- 93 Punkte Wine & Spirits Magazine (11/22): At a recent celebration of Ridge’s 60th Anniversary, John Olney mentioned that the mixed vineyard at Lytton Springs has the oldest pinot noir vines in California, among many other varieties, many of them centenarian zinfandel vines along with petite sirah, carignane, mataro and grenache. The mix brings bass notes and dynamic energy to this classical California red. The red-currant and cranberry fruit has a healthy feel to its richness, lasting with restraint and elegance.“

Bewertung für Jahrgang 2019:
- 95 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK:
„The 2019 Lytton Springs checks in as 73% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, and the rest Carignan and Mataro. Revealing a translucent ruby/plum hue as well as beautiful cassis and red plum fruits supported by lots of savory herbs, orange blossom, cigar, and spice-driven aromas and flavors, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless texture, moderate yet present tannins, and a great finish. While the Geyserville Cuvee has eclipsed the Lytton Spring in most vintages in the past decade, that's not the case in 2019.“

- 94 Punkte, Wine Spectator, Tim Fish: „Detailed and compelling, with briar patch and wild red berry aromas leading to distinctive, multilayered white pepper and smoky anise flavors, which build complexity toward refined tannins. Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane and Mataro.“ Drink now through 2031. 11,000 cases made.

Notizen des Weinguts: Winemaker Tasting Notes Appealing nose of pepper, and raspberry. Layered plum, blackberry and cocoa on the palate with chalky tannins and a lingering finish. JO (1/21) Vintage Notes After a short harvest the prior year, the vines rebounded with a full crop. Moderate summer temperatures allowed for slow ripening. We waited until mid-September to pick to ensure all varieties were ready. After malolactic, twenty-four blocks were combined, including two pure petite sirah blocks, to add structure to the abundant zinfandel fruit. Enjoyable young, this outstanding wine will gain in complexity over ten to fifteen years. Growing Season Rainfall: 61.2 inches (above normal) Bloom: May Weather: Total rainfall for the season was almost double our usual amounts. The vines responded with bountiful yields of great quality. Winemaking Harvest Dates: 10 September – 14 October Grapes: Average Brix 24.3˚ TA: 5.57 g/L pH: 3.77 Fermentation: Full crush; 100% Natural primary and secondary; pressed at eleven days.
