Quintessa

- NOTIZEN DES WEINGUTS: „Sitting on the eastern edge of Rutherford, at the foot of the Vaca Mountain range, Quintessa is a natural mosaic — an assemblage of hills and valleys with a variety of soils and microclimates that come together to reveal itself in a wine of elegance and harmony.“

Heute sind auf 26 Weinbergsblöcken insgesamt 65 Hektar mit Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot und Carménère bestockt. Jeder Block wird biologisch und biodynamisch bewirtschaftet, geerntet und einzeln vinifiziert.

Je nach Jahrgang kann Quintessa einige oder alle der fünf auf dem Anwesen angebauten Rebsorten enthalten: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot und Carménère. Die Trauben werden früh am Morgen geerntet, dann sortiert und mit Hilfe der Schwerkraft in Eichen-, Edelstahl- oder Betontanks gefüllt und vergoren. Nach Abschluss der Gärung und Mazeration reift der Wein jeder Parzelle getrennt für bis zu zwei Jahre in französischer Eiche.

- WINESPECTATOR, James Molesworth: „Quintessa is a unique property. Its 280 acres (160 under vine) sit in the middle of the Napa Valley floor, in the Rutherford District. But with a series of hillocks that give it a range of exposures, combined with a band of volcanic ash along its eastern border, Quintessa’s Cabernet takes on more of a mountain fruit persona, with rigid tannins, pronounced acidity and a distinct minerality as opposed to the plusher feel of typical valley floor fruit. Due to that idiosyncracy, it’s taken a while for the team here to harness and finesse the wine, by not only realizing what they are doing well and not so well, but also why.“
