The 2000 is outstanding, demonstrating a deep color that hints at the intensity of fruit to come, and the nose expands on this even further, revealing a deep, tensely-wound core of crushed berry aroma. This is remarkably intense yet it achieves this intensity with virtually no weight whatsoever—at only 12.5 percent alcohol, it’s buoyant and effortlessly ethereal, while the old-vine depth of fruit demonstrates a quiet, subtly resonant grip that is capable of stopping you in your tracks. There is a profound sense of place exhibited by this wine, feeling undeniably, incontrovertibly a product of Bouzy. Despite the ample and persistent ubiquity of fruit aromas, this is entirely infused by a detailed and sophisticated sense of chalk, infiltrating the whole with an unassuming yet pervasively assertive presence that leaves you with the feeling that soil, not ripeness, is the dominant characteristic here. |Notizen des Weinguts:||Before champagne, still red and white wines were made in the region of Champagne. It was during Louis XIV's rein that Bouzy established the reputation for which it is still renowned today. In spite of his doctor's disapproval, Louis XIV preferred the good wines of Champagne to any other and the wine of Bouzy was thus one of the items in the King's inventory ledger at the Court of Versailles. Paul Bara's Bouzy Rouge is one of the best in this category of still red wines. It is made from old vines of more than fifty years in age that are grown in a vineyard with ideal exposure. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand on a sorting table, ensuring that only the ripest and healthiest of them go into the wine. Bouzy Rouge is then fermented and matured in stainless steel vats until reaching its full potential. The resulting red wine makes a sensational partner for light grilled meats, roasted veal in herbs or country-style ham. Maison Paul Bara is a member of the famous Académie des Vins de Bouzy.|
