NEUES VON DANCING CROW VINEYARDS (VORVERKAUF):

SAUVIGNON BLANC 2017

0,75 l @ 18,50 Euro
(24,67 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 15,73 Euro (20,97 €/l)
100% Sauvignon Blanc; 6 Monate in Edelstahl; 12,5% vol;
- BEST OF CLASS San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Mike Dunne’s Best of Class Notes: “No surprise that the Best-of- Class Sauvignon Blanc in the $17 to $21 price range, despite a crowded field (61 entries), would be from Lake County. This could be the poster picture for the area’s Sauvignon Blanc, not only for its striking label but for its essence of lemon and lime in the wine’s flavor, its vital acidity and spice, and its remarkably lingering finish.”
- 90 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Jim Gordon:
"This is a nicely tart, palate-cleansing wine with plenty of fruit acidity, rather light body and vivid lemon, grapefruit and fresh herb flavors. It tastes bracing and crisp, making it a great choice with appetizers and on hot summer days."

CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2017
0,75 l @ 24,90 Euro
(33,20 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 21,17 Euro (28,23 €/l)
89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot; 8 Monate Medium Toast French Oak; 14,3% vol;
- BEST OF CLASS San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Mike Dunne’s Best of Class Notes: Cabernet Sauvignon in this price range isn’t supposed to be this profound in expression of variety, place and vintage, but consider that it comes from Lake County, which for years has been providing Napa Valley wineries with grapes and now finally is being recognized openly for the caliber and character of its fruit.”
- 90 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Jim Gordon:
"This wine tastes old school in a good way, revealing the traditional black-olive and herb nuances of California Cabernet grown in cool climates. It has good depth, a nicely firm texture and lingering fruit and herb notes on the finish."

VOLCANO RIDGE CUVÉE 2017
0,75 l @ 24,90 Euro
(33,20 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 21,17 Euro (28,23 €/l)
71% Syrah, 23% Mourvèdre, 4% Grenache, 2% Durif; 8 Monate in Ungarischer Eiche; 14,5% vol;
- 92 Punkte und "Editor's Choice"  WINE ENTHUSIAST, Jim Gordon: "This wine is impressive and delicious, offering abundant aromas of black plums, black pepper and licorice and rich ripe saturated flavors of blackberry and black cherry. It is full bodied, rounded in texture but supported by underlying soft tannins and it leaves luscious fruit accents clinging to the sides of the mouth."

NEUES VON DEN VARNER ZWILLINGEN (VORVERKAUF):

FOXGLOVE CHARDONNAY CENTRAL COAST 2017
0,75 l @ 19,90 Euro (26,53 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 16,92 Euro (22,55 €/l)
100% Chardonnay, 96% Santa Barbara County, 4% Paso Robles Clone 4 and Dijon Clones; 13, 8 % vol; Hefelagerung; jedoch kein Holzeinsatz und keine Malolaktik
- 90 Punkte und "Vinous Favorites" VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: "A stunning value, the 2017 Chardonnay from Foxglove is soft, supple and absolutely delicious. Light tropical notes, lemon confit, white flowers and bright acids give the 2017 striking nuance as well as character. Ageing in steel keeps the flavor vibrant."

VARNER PINOT NOIR LOS ALAMOS VINEYARD 2015
0,75 l @ 31,90 Euro (42,53 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 27,12 Euro (36,15 €/l)
100% Pinot Noir, 100% Los Alamos Vineyard, Santa Barbara; 33% Clone 777, shallow soil with less fertility; 67% Pommard Clone, gentle slope, older vines; 100% de-stemmed, pressed at dryness, malolactic completed after pressing; 13,5 % vol;
- VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: "Sweet red cherry, hard candy, mint, tobacco and dried flowers are front and center in the 2015 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard. This is an especially racy, silky style that shows the effects of the drought year in its bold fruit. Fermentation and aging predominantly in tank helps retain a measure of freshness."
- JEB DUNNUCK: "From another site in Santa Barbara County, the 2015 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard was completely destemmed and brought up all in stainless steel. It offers plenty of cherry and wild strawberry fruit, earthy/underbrush nuances, medium-bodied richness and a good finish."

VARNER PINOT NOIR PICNIC BLOCK 2014
SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS
0,75 l @ 49,90 Euro (66,53 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 42,42 Euro (56,55 €/l)
seast-facing slope; sedimentary rock shallow depth; Dijon 777 clone; all french oak, thirty percent new, features Allier & Nevers forests; 161 cases produced; Ten miles from the Pacific Ocean, northern Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, Dry-farmed, non-fertilized, hand-hoed, no insecticides, native cover crop; 2-3% whole clusters, 5 day cool soak, hand punchdown, indigenous yeast, Pressed at dryness, 2 months elevage in stainless steel, then 8 months in barrels without racking Hand-racked using an esquive and hand-cranked barrel tilting device, unfined & unfiltered.
- 93 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Picnic Block is bold, powerful and beautifully resonant on the palate. Succulent red cherry and plum fruit is nicely pushed forward, with pretty floral and savory notes that add striking aromatic complexity. There is lovely depth and texture to this pungent, racy Pinot Noir from Bob and Jim Varner. Beams of tannin underpin the subtle yet persistent, structured finish."

- 92 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, William Kelley: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Picnic Block isn't as high-toned as the Upper Picnic Block bottling, offering up deeper-pitched aromas of smoky black fruits, rich soil and pencil shavings that show a touch more oak influence too. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and ample, with a succulent core of dark fruit, melting tannins and a generous, lavish attack. It's a lovely Pinot Noir, cut from quite gourmand cloth this year, but it's not quite on the level of the Upper Picnic Block, so I can well understand why the Varner brothers chose to separate them."
- 92 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: "More herbal, with plenty of tobacco, smoked dark fruits, sour cherry, and underbrush notes, the medium-bodied 2014 Pinot Noir Picnic Block Spring Ridge Vineyard has a fresh, lively, almost Burgundian vibe and enough underlying structure to keep it drinking nicely for upwards of a decade. I think the Upper Picnic Block release is a step up, but this is still a rocking bottle of wine."

PINOT NOIR KINGS VINEYARD 2017
RUSSIAN RIVER
0,75 l @ 65,00 Euro (86,67 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 55,25 Euro (73,67 €/l)
Kesner Wines sind die eigenen Weine von Jason Kesner, dem Winemaker von Kistler Vineyards!
- Jason Kesner: „A sandy loam in the Santa Rosa plains, that yields the elusive pretty side of Pinot Noir but not without a lean muscled core. More restrained than powerful. On the nose, crushed red rose petals, tealeaves, and vaulted fruit tones of fresh red raspberry and pomegranate. Middle full in the mouth, speaking of primary fruit with an impeccable, vibrant acidity and a lasting ethereal finish. Striking for its poise. Delicate. Lovely. Native fermentation, only free run juice, no pressing. Whole berry fermentation, free run only, no press wine used. Cellared in only used French Oak.
- Über die Lage: „The King family vineyard, farmed by Lee Martinelli, is a little Pinot Noir jewel in the midst of a sea of Chardonnay that I stumbled upon in 2012. I knew there was something different to be done with it. The vineyard produces a Pinot Noir that speaks to the feminine side of the varietal. It would be easy to make it into a darker, heavier, more typical Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, but I'm trusting of harvesting it when the acids are bright, with a focus on retention of the delicate esters and characters. We've been turning some heads with this wine. Definitely not pegged as a CA Pinot Noir.“

NEUES WEINGUT: SMITH-MADRONE (VORVERKAUF):

Stuart Pigott besuchte das Weingut vor einigen Jahren uns schrieb danach: „Why do I do this job? Why am I more excited about it than ever before? Because of people like Stuart (left) and Charles Smith (right) of Smith Madrone estate on Spring Mountain in Napa Valley. Before I visited them yesterday I knew that they're TWO OF THE UNSUNG HEROES OF AMERICAN RIESLING, but since my visit I would say THEY'RE ALSO UNSUNG HEROES OF AMERICAN CHARDONNAY AND AMERICAN CABERNET SAUVIGNON. These are actually ALL WORLD CLASS WINES, …“

STUART SMITH: „All our wines are made entirely from ourdry-farmed estate vineyards surrounding the winery on top of Spring Mountain in the Napa Valley. Our goal is to make artisanal wines which are distinctive and are an expression of both the vintage and us, as vintners, but above all else, are wines which bring pleasure to the senses. Every year our wine is made from the same vineyards, pruned by the same people in the same way, cultivated in exactly the same manner and harvested at similar levels of maturity, yet Mother Nature stamps each vintage with a unique set of flavors, senses and character. Vintage dating is a celebration of that uniqueness and diversity.“

- 93 Punkte Terroirist, Isaac Baker, am 24. 8. 2019: „Light yellow color. Aromas of juicy yellow apples topped in complex notes of honey, almond, cinnamon, sea salt, hay and chalk dust. Deep texture on the palate with pretty acidity and lovely balance. Yellow apples, candied lemons, orange peel and apricot, juicy and fruity but also airy and elegant. Salty, minerals, chalky, with notes of honey, nougat and hay. Gorgeous, deep, yet vibrant. Another beautiful Chardonnay from Smith-Madrone. Barrel fermented with 80% new French oak. I’d love to age this for five years. (93 points)“
- Notizen des Weinguts: „The near perfect 2016 growing season started early and saw ideal weather conditions. This spectacular Chardonnay has a full, forward nose with complex notes of toasted hazelnut, white peaches and Meyer lemon. Admirably restrained oak. Beautiful mid-palate that is full and succulent without being the least bit heavy. Superbly integrated acidity. Overall the wine exhibits a remarkable structure that translates to a lip-smacking juiciness.“

ESTATE RIESLING 2016
0,75 l @ 35,00 Euro (46,67 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 29,75 Euro (39,67 €/l)
100% Estate Grown am Spring Mountain, Napa Valley; 12,8 % vol; 1199 Kisten produziert.
- 93 Punkte Terroirist, Isaac Baker, am 24. 8. 2019: „Light yellow color. Gorgeous nose of salted limes, apricot, pineapple, with dusty, chalky, sea spray notes. Laser-like focus on the palate, quite dry and vibrant. Juicy yellow and green apples with limes, and a complex mix of limestone, ocean spray, mountain stream and crushed shells. Such a lively, complex, balanced and age-worthy Riesling. Smith-Madrone does it again, and this vintage is a stunner for the cellar. 12.8% alcohol, about 0.7% residual sugar. (93 points)“
- Blog The Nittany Epicurean, Michael Chelus, am 23. 8. 2019: Ideal aperitif. This wine is 100% riesling from the Spring Mountain District in the Napa Valley. 1,199 cases were made and the wine comes in at 12.8% ABV. The wine showed a light golden color. Pear, lemon curd, apple, stone fruit and whiffs of petrol all arrived on the nose. Pear, pithy lemon, apple, candied citron, apricot and hints of petrol followed on the palate where the citrus was bright and abundant. The wine exhibited good acidity and balance, along with good structure and length. This wine would be an ideal aperitif and would also pair well with steamed lobster or crispy pork schnitzel.“
- Notizen des Weinguts: „Aromatically, the 2016 Riesling has strong floral notes with an admixture of lime, stone fruits and minerality. These qualities translate seamlessly into a succulent mid-palate replete with corresponding flavors. Very Alsatian in styles, the creamy center suggests a kind of delicate forcefulness that finishes with a bright, lively, juicy-fruit acidity.Altogether lovely, delicious and stylish, the Riesling would be great ice-cold on a hot summer day or make a superb accompaniment to a wide variety of food either spicy or savory. This wine is made from mountain grown grapes, honoring the international tradition of Riesling which thrives on steep hillsides.“

ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2015

- Notizen des Weinguts: „The crop is 2015 was unusually small and the growing conditions produced a medium weight wine of great style and wonderful drinkability. Aromatically the wine is thrilling in its laser-like focus and intensity of fragrance.  It delivers remarkable complexity; every inhalation reveals a new and surprising element.  Bright fruit, dark fruit, black currants, red plums, lavender, spices, violets, green olives, all are present and more. The palate confirms rich flavors of vibrant blue-black fruit, surrounded by a silky texture that leads to a bright and beguiling finish. Overall, the impression is one of effortless elegance, sleek and svelte.“

COOK'S FLAT RESERVE 2013
0,75 l @ 225,00 Euro (300,00 €/l) - minus 15 % Vorverkaufs-Rabatt @ 191,25 Euro (255,00 €/l)
100% Estate Grown am Spring Mountain, Napa Valley; 46% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot; 19 month in 100% new French oak; 14,3 % vol; 2.450 individually numbered bottles.
- Notizen des Weinguts: „This is a limited production wine of 194 cases created by the careful selection and blending of a small group of the best barrels the vintage had to offer. In 2013, this means the wine is 46% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot, aged for19 months in 100% new French oak from the forests of Tronçais, Nevers and Allier. Following barrel aging, the wine rested for two and a half years in the bottle before its release on November 13, 2018. Cook’s Flat Reserve represents our uncompromisingpursuit of perfection in winemaking. Each bottle is numbered and tissue wrapped with a copy of the U.S. Land Office patent which was signed by President Chester A. Arthur, granting ownership of the land to George Cook. That original document hangs in the winery and is an important part of our history. We chose this name in tribute to George Cook, the first owner of the property and the person who originally planted the vines here in the 1880s.

The 2013 Cook’s Flat Reserve is a text-book example of the wonderful complexities available in fine wine to those who are willing to slow down and savor the moment. Aromatically fascinating, this wine is a nearly inexhaustible cornucopia of alluring fragrances. It leads with a deep black/red core of fruit surrounded by grace notes of leather, tobacco, nutmeg, violets and cedar. There is even a hint, a mere suggestion, perhaps something like orange zest sprinkled on a dab of brown sugar. An aroma of this complexity is so haunting as to be an end in itself. Happily, after such a glorious start the wine has terrific follow-through on the palate. The black/red fruit that forms the core of the aroma happily repeats itself as it wells up deliciously in the mid-palate with sumptuous portions of black currants and blackberries. A sleek and creamy texture overlays an under-current of light acidity and graceful tannins that promise a long and happy life for those inclined to wait. All in all, the wine is generous without being over-the-top, beautifully composed, harmonious, complete and lingering.“

- Blog The Syrah Queen, Rupal Shankar, am 28. August 2019: „The Cook’s Flat Reserve is one of my all-time favorite Napa Valley wine. I have had the honor to taste the 2012 and the 2013. Charlie very generously opened a bottle of 2013 for me, and I had the opportunity to try the 2012 last year with a group of fellow wine writers. The Cook’s Flat Reserve is a wine that will appeal to all Bordeaux lovers.

The 2013 that Charlie poured in my glass, is a blend of 46% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot. It is an exceptional wine with rich red fruit and spice. There are hints of blackberry, currants, black pepper, dark chocolate, nutmeg, leather, and tobacco. The wine is powerful with silky tannins. Its precise balance is reminiscent of an old-world style wine.

My time with Charlie at Smith-Madrone Vineyards was very humbling and grounding; he epitomized what all winemaking should be like. The wines are world-class in every way – real, authentic and beautiful. The vineyards atop Spring Mountain are magical, an untouched part of Napa Valley. A bit off the beaten path, Smith-Madrone is definitely a winery that needs to be explored by all Napa Valley wine lovers.“
