Full-bodied and pleasantly savory in the mouth, it gives up loads of earth and exotic spice flavors plus a solid foundation of firm, rounded tannins, finishing with persistent mineral and pepper notions. 2017-2025.“

JoS, verkostet Anfang März 2018: "Kräftiges, undurchdringliches Dunkelrot mit schwarzen und violetten Reflexen; verströmt attraktive Aromen von schwarzen Kirschen, reifen Brombeeren, schwarzen Johannisbeeren, dunkle Schokolade, Lakritze, weißer Pfeffer, indische Gewürze, etwas Kräuter, auch ein wenig Röstaromen und Süßholz; kräftiger Körper, viele Tannine von höchster Qualität, intensiv, auch mineralische Anklänge, Tiefe und trotz aller Wucht mit Finesse, sehr komplex, sehr lang. Rund und stimmig, extrem schön und für mich erstaunlich – sehr viel Trinkfluss bietend! Ein Riesenwein, einfach köstlich. Dekantieren tut ihm sehr gut, aber er schmeckt auch schon ab dem ersten Schluck. Glasempfehlung: Zalto-Bordeaux-Glas.“

97 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Jeb Dunnuck: "There are 750 cases (which means good yields for John, although any normal person would call 1.5-1.75 tons per acre financial suicide) of the 2012 Syrah Reva Alban Estate Vineyard, and it's a terrific vintage for this cuvee. Elegant, pretty, even finesse driven, with its classic marine and salty bouquet of smoke, purple fruits, olives and violets, this full-bodied Syrah has no hard edges, integrated acidity and a great finish. It's reasonably approachable now, but deserves 2-4 years of cellaring. 2020-2035."

NORTH PINOT NOIR 2014 JOHN ALBAN VINEYARDS

Vor etwa 20 Jahren pflanzte John Alban auch etwas Chardonnay und Pinot Noir in seinen eigenen Weinbergen im Edna Valley an. Das tat er jedoch nicht in der Absicht, eigene Weine zu produzieren, sondern weil er die Trauben gut verkaufen konnte. Mit zunehmenden Alter der Rebstöcke haben seine Frau Lorraine und John selbst grossen Gefallen an diesen zwei Sorten gefunden. Die Rebstöcke bringen hervorragende Trauben hervor, die John mit seinem Können und seiner immensen Erfahrung zu herausragenden Weinen werden lässt. Leider sind die Produktionsmengen sehr, sehr klein.

Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Jeb Dunnuck, bewertet mit 96 Punkten. Eine solch hohe Wine Advocate Bewertung für einen Pinot Noir gibt es nur extrem selten: "The finest vintage to date, the 2014 Pinot Noir IS FLAT OUT AWESOME. Completely destemmed, fermented and aged in 50% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it's locked and loaded with notions of black raspberries, spring flowers, spice and violets. These notions give way to a full-bodied, incredibly pure and layered Pinot Noir that has terrific tannin quality and a great finish. Drink this seriously good Pinot over the coming 7-8 years, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see it keep for longer. 2016-2024. While they come from his estate vineyards in Edna Valley, John Alban releases his non Rhone-based releases under his North label."

Ripe, full-bodied, voluptuous and decadent, with textbook apricot, flowers, brioche and orange blossom aromas and flavors, it will easily stand beside a great Condrieu. Like with the Central Coast release, it will drink nicely for several years. 2015-2017.”

92 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE: "While labeled as the Central Coast release, the 2014 Viognier comes all from estate fruit in 2014 and going forward. It has been, and remains, one of the great values in Viognier from California. Giving up lots of ripe peach, flowers and exotic honey, it's rich, unctuous and concentrated on the palate, with fabulous purity. It's already a terrific drink, but will continue to impress for several years."

John Albans Ziel sind köstliche Weine höchster Qualität. Daher denkt er sehr weit und die Weinberge werden so nachhaltig wie irgendwie möglich bearbeitet. Er verzichtet dabei auf eine Zertifizierung. Mit einem Augenzwinkern meint er, sie sind weder ORGANIC, noch BIO-DYNAMIC, aber sie sind 100 % ALBANIC. Auf Herbizide und Pestizide wird komplett verzichtet, ebenso auf die Bewässerung  In den Weinbergen leben sogar Schafe und verrichten wertvolle Dienste. Als anderes Extrem wird modernste Technik eingesetzt. Mit einer automatischen Drohne mit dem Namen El Diablo gibt Vogellaute von sich. Damit werden Vögel vertrieben, die ansonsten die Trauben aufessen. Als witziges aber nützliches Beiwerk haben die Vogellaute Falken und Habichte angelockt, die wiederum die gefräßigen Vögel dezimieren.
