- One of the ?Best Wineries of the Regions? 5 red star winery bei JAMES HALLIDAY Australian Wine Companion: ?A distinguished estate with a proud, even if relatively short, history. Long renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon, its repertoire has steadily grown, with the emphasis on single varietal wines. The style overall is fruit rather than oak-driven.

Leconfield Coonawarra was established by noted oenologist, Sydney Hamilton, in the southern half of the Coonawarra strip. The vineyard occupies some of the area?s richest terra rossa soil over limestone, a composition for which Coonawarra is famous. During his winemaking career spanning nearly 60 years, Sydney was highly regarded for his contribution to the industry. In 1981, with 65 vintages under his belt,Sydney decided to finally retire and Leconfield was acquired by his nephew, Dr Richard Hamilton, then based in McLaren Vale.

FAKTEN

WINEMAKING NOTES:
As with all Leconfield wines, our philosophy is to produce wines displaying bothdepth and elegance where oak complexes and enhances the fruit but is not allowedto dominate. 2013 produced excellence in both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlotwith yields being quite low, ranging from 5.0-7.5 tonnes/ha.
OAK TREATMENT:
Oak maturation was in a blend of new and used hogsheads with several workings to soften the tannins and fill-out the flavour: 100% matured in oak for 14 months (30% New French, 17% 1 year old French, 12% 1 year old American & 41% 3 year old French).
VINTAGE NOTES:
2013 was a warm vintage and the vineyards produced grapes with outstanding flavour concentration. One section of the vineyard grew Cabernet Sauvignon with pronounced minty characteristics which complemented a rich selection of Merlot.
CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Excellent on release and will age over the next 6-8 years. The mint overtones are expected to remain and complex further with cedar characters as the wine matures.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Leconfield is situated in the heart of Australia?s famous Coonawarra wine region. With ist rich Terra Rossa soil over limestone providing the ideal environment for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vineyard was founded in 1974 by pioneering oenologist Sydney Hamilton who at 76 years of age had the ambition to produce the classic Australian red wine. Time has validated his choice of Coonawarra as a fantastic place to do just that. Today the estate is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, smaller patches of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Shiraz and complemented with the white varieties of Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Beschreibung:
