It is beautifully defined on the nose, featuring scents of dried honey, almond, praline and pressed yellow flowers, perhaps borrowing some of the airiness of the 2016 vintage. The palate is underpinned by a keen line of acidity that effortlessly counterbalances the richness of this 2017, making it one of the easiest sweet wines to drink in its youth. It conveys plenty of energy with a very persistent orange peel, quince and marmalade finish, then a spicy aftertaste. Sublime. Sample sent from Klein Constantia."

This tiptoes between lemon curd and smoked toffee richness and a more pointed rosemary, lime blossom and jasmine florality. It's full of character and life, succulent and fresh, with a salted caramel twist that gives a savoury finish. 3.7pH. Drinking Window 2020 – 2050"

- 18 Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON, Tom Parker: "100% Muscat de Frontignan. A late, mild winter with more rainfall than in 2015, though still below average. Budburst was uneven due to cold September weather, but the ensuing warm days and cool nights of the summer were perfect for flowering and fruit set. Cooler temperatures later in the growing season with little rainfall led to excellent flavour development, exceptionally healthy fruit and good retention of acidity. Winemaker Matthew Day considers it to have been a textbook growing season.
Pale lemon gold in the glass. Superbly perfumed with musky white flowers, Turkish delight, white sultanas and heather honey. These notes all follow on the complex and inviting palate. Lovely sweetness on the front and middle are gently washed away by fresh acidity. This lifts the finish and leaves a very fresh and clean perception. Pure and delineated throughout, but there is still a honeyed character with good length. The progression to a fresher style continues."

It’s very sweet, yet energetic and intense. It goes on for so long. And then again. Yet, it remains balanced. A great sweet wine through and through. Drink or hold."

Notizen des Weinguts: Whilst still technically in a drought, we had a text book growing season with a slightly higher rainfall than previous years. It was characterised again by cold nights, warm days, wind and very little rainfall. This further aided the berry development and due to the dry conditions leading up to harvest, we had exceptionally healthy fruit. Pure gold in colour. The nose presents an enticing encounter, followed by precise yet delicate aromas of white flowers, ripe citrus and touch of rosewater and almonds. The palate is in perfect harmony with a luscious mouthfeel. Flavours of creamy stone fruit, litchi, citrus zest and a lively spice abound creating an ideal balance. It concludes with a vibrant yet complex long finish. The approach used to create Vin de Constance is unique to Klein Constantia, tailored from historic information used to make the iconic sweet wines of Constantia in the 1700’s. From these records we have recreated a style of Muscat de Frontignan involving numerous winemaking techniques in order to create the perfect sweet wine. One of the most important aspects is to achieve balance, to do this we harvested the grapes in numerous batches over a 2 month period. Each batch has a precise purpose and is meticulously blended together on numerous occasions to achieve a perfect balance between sugar, alcohol and acidity. After an extended fermentation period, the wine was aged for 3 years in a combination of 50% new oak and acacia barrels, as well as large format foudres before further blending and bottling.
