- 92+ Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE: "Tightly knit and backward, the 2002 Martha?s Vineyard offers hints of black cherries, black currants, earth, new saddle leather and spice box. Full-bodied, dense and concentrated as well as high in tannin, this youthful effort no longer reveals this cuvee?s famous eucalyptus aroma, but it does not lack for power, richness or aging potential. Drink it over the next 20+ years."

- 91 Punkte DECANTER, Stephen Brook: "The late Joe Heitz was a pioneer of single-vineyard Cabernet wines, and Martha's Vineyard in Oakville which was first made in 1966, was always the jewel in his crown. The wine often displayed a distinctive eucalyptus character, but Heitz believed this tone was derived from the clone planted here rather than from nearby trees. The wine was magnificent when young but has not aged brilliantly. On this showing the nose is silky and charred and lacks freshness. Although rich, plump, and concentrated, the palate lacks some brightness and polish. It has length but seems evolved. Drinking Window 2019 ? 2024"

- 17+ Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON: "Made since 1966 (Napa?s first vineyard-designated wine) from the Martha?s Cabernet clone; malo blocked despite long ageing in barrel.
Still a deep ruby colour, and still primary on the nose. Lots of juicy black fruit with a little earthiness and a touch of savoury spice. Finely structured, the tannins are well integrated and give a slick, plump mouthfeel. The fruit shines but there is a hint of undergrowth and toasted spice here too. Showing much younger than I would expect ? perhaps the 2012 will age longer than my drinking window suggests."
