- 98 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: „An exceptional vintage for this wine, with such intense aromas of lime and sweet flowers, as well as hints of white nectarine and wet stone in the background. The palate has density and sleekly refined shape that drives so long. Lime juice throughout, and some almost pithy density builds into the finish, supported by driving acidity. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2026 and a number of years after that. Screw cap.“

Notizen des Weinguts: A spectacular vintage with layer upon layer of powerful lime juice aromatics against a backdrop of enticing florals. The palate is intense with lime pith flavours, weight, power and a crisp, ultra-dry finish that lingers. It has the structure and intensity of flavour to become one of the great vintages. Cellar? ‘As long as you like’ says Jeff – up to 25 years, or drink now. Produced from riesling grown at the Grosset Polish Hill Vineyard. Certified organic and biodynamic (ACO) Unfined – vegan and vegetarian friendly Grosset Polish Hill Riesling is produced from the eight-hectare estate-owned Grosset Polish Hill Vineyard (ACO certified organic and biodynamic) in the Clare Valley. The gently sloping site, selected and planted by Grosset in 1996, is comprised of silt and shallow shales over a thin crust of clay and gravel. This overlays a bed of blue slate, estimated to be around 500-million-years old. This is a ‘hard rock’ site. The vines struggle to draw nutrients from the soil, so the bunches and berries are small, and the fruit flavours lingering. Indeed, this vineyard exemplifies how old-rock profiles can contribute to a wine’s character. It is indeed an extreme example. A major challenge of this site is the variability in vigour from one vine to the next. This demands more intense labour input and hand-tending skill – varied to suit each vine – to achieve balanced vine growth and even fruit ripening. Relatively close-planted, there are three clones of riesling (two German and one rare local clone) producing an average of just two bottles of wine per vine.
