Winemakers Comments:
We?ve been blessed by being able to harvest grapes each year from the St Jakobi vineyard. Located in the southern district of the Barossa Valley near the township on Lyndoch is a unique region with the harvest often starting here earlier than some of the other sub regions of the Barossa.
2013 Vintage was extremely dry so there were no pressures to harvest because of wet weather instead the pressures came from all grapes showing wonderful flavours and being ready to harvest all at the same time.
The 5 acre patch of Shiraz that provides the grapes for this wine is very consistent year after year in giving wine of dark berry fruit flavours and mouth filling richness with the ability to develop nicely in the bottle for 10 years and beyond.

Your favourite recipe for this wine:
Sauté of wild picked French mushrooms, Italian sausage & herbs.

Vintage 2013
An extremely dry Spring and Summer with only 77 mm of rain falling from Oct ? March resulted in low crops across the St Jakobi vineyard and of course many others throughout the Barossa Valley. Of course with little rain there is little risk of disease in the vineyard.
The 2ha St Jakobi Shiraz block is typically harvested over a 1 or 2 week period. Picking across the ripening spectrum gives us parcels of wine showing a range of flavours and an opportunity to blend accordingly to give us the flavours and structure we like to see in this wine.
This is typically the way we do things but our first pick from the St Jakobi block for the 2013 Vintage showed such great flavour and colour we decided to harvest the complete block 2 days later.
