Nur ca. 4.000 Flaschen produziert!

- 95 Punkte WEIN PLUS (12/2022): „Kühle, straffe, hefige und recht deutlich pflanzliche bis fein-kräuterige, auch etwas florale Nase mit sehr feinen Zitrus- und Kernobstaromen, auch etwas Steinobst, angedeutet weißem Pfeffer, Kapern, Kreide, ein wenig Brioche und Muschelschalen. Fest griffig und saftig im Mund, noble, helle Frucht, Hefe, intensive, kreidige Mineralik und kräuterig-pflanzliche Aromen, sehr feine, präsente Mousseux und merklicher Säurebiss, nachhaltig, dicht und griffig am Gaumen, deutlich Fleur de Sel, hat fast etwas Knuspriges, zarter Schmelz, Pfifferlinge im Hintergrund, Weißbrot und maritime Töne, ziemlich komplex, langer, kühler, straffer Abgang mit viel hellem Saft, deutlicher Mineralik und reichlich Zug. Offering notes of lemon zest and pear skin, as well as a long finish, this is a charming wine to enjoy over the coming decade or so. Derived predominantly from holdings in Avize, it's full-bodied, layered and immensely concentrated, with a tightly wound, structured core and racy acid spine that mark it out as emphatically built for the long haul. Deep and vinous, I suspect that it will surpass the 2008 rendition at maturity."

Yannick Doyard, who had to retake the helm of the 11-hectare family domaine in Vertus after the tragic death of his then 31-year-old son Charles one year ago, presented a fantastic quintet of Champagnes during a speed-meeting in Cramant earlier this year. Doyard has holdings in prestigious grand crus and premier crus such as Vertus, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, Cramant, Aÿ and Dizy. The majority (90%) is Chardonnay, and just one hectare is Pinot Noir. The vines are 40 years old (on average), and the yields are kept very low. Since only the very best grapes are processed, the annual production is just 40,000 bottles.The wines are partly vinified in used oak barrels and kept on the lees until March. Malolactic fermentation is blocked, but the second fermentation is under natural cork, which softens the texture a bit and underlines the vinous, elegant character of the enormously concentrated, vital wines that will get even better with age."
