- 93 Punkte WINESPECTATOR, Bruce Sanderson: "The peach and apple flavors are wrapped in butter and baking spice notes in this rich, almost creamy white. Harmonious and charming enough to be enjoyable now, yet there is good cut underneath and fine length. Drink now through 2024. 500 cases made."
- 94 Punkte DECANTER, Tim Atkin: "La Garenne is one of Puligny's smaller and less well known premiers crus, located on the slope up to Blagny. It makes wines that generally have plenty of bite and acidity, and this example is a case in point, showing a hint of stony reduction, some vanilla spice and a core of chalky minerality. Drinking Window 2021 ? 2028"
- 17 Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON, Julia Harding: "The first of the Sauzet wines where I have noticed the oak, both in the toasty flavour and the creamy texture. A definite step up from the Chassagne Les Encégnières ? in intensity and richness. Long and with a promising future."- 94 Punkte INTERNATIONAL WINEREPORT: "The 2017 'La Garenne' Puligny-Montrachet from Etienne Sauzet is a sensational release that has a marvelous combination of weight and terroir. Once in the glass the impressive combination of wet stones, dark truffle shavings and smoked Gala apple all show marvelous flair and work magically together. The silky texture glides across the mid-palate as characteristics of wet stones and forest floor flavors mingle with cinnamon infused Pink Lady apple, citrus and vanilla creme brûlée. While seductive in its youth, this ultimately needs more time in the bottle to fully develop. Enjoy this sensational bottling over the next fifteen to twenty years."
- 92 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, William Kelley: "Unfurling in the glass with aromas of wheat toast, crisp green orchard fruit, white peach and subtle hints of nutmeg, as well as a touch of youthful struck match, Sauzet's 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne is medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with a lively but envelopingly textural profile, excellent concentration and tension at the core, and a long, delicately chalky finish. This saw a very judicious 25% new wood and is shaping up to be one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I've tasted."
