Rauzan Segla

Chateau Rauzan Segla ist heute eine Tochtergesellschaft von Chanel. Seinen Namen erhielt es während der Französischen Revolution, als das Chateau Rauzan in zwei Güter unterteilt wurde: Chateau Rauzan Gassies und Chateau Rauzan Segla, wobei der Name Segla von der damaligen Besitzerin stammt, die eine Nachfahrin des Gründers war.

Etwa 70 Hektar sind mit Reben bestockt (61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot und 2% Cabernet Franc)

- Notizen des Weinguts: „The main vineyards are located near the château, very close to the village of Margaux, on the famous « Terrasse 4 », a wide strip of gravels buried within a thin layer of clay. The poor, naturally-draining soil encourages the deep rooting of the vine. From these remarkable vines, usually the oldest, comes the fruit from which the Grand Vin is born. Parcels of vines, planted on various different types of soil, gravitate around the main vineyards, like satellites. An extensive soil study was undertaken in the 2000s in order to better understand this diversity and inform our decision-making. The findings allowed the team to identify specific vineyard plots, sometimes the size of a parcel of vines, sometimes just one row, with a particular subsoil. With this additional information to hand the Rauzan-Ségla team, and particularly the vineyard manager, François Baudoux, are able to work the vineyards with greater precision.“

Gelesen wird von Hand in kleine 7kg-Kisten. Die Trauben werden zweimal sortiert und gelangen dann ausschließlich per Schwerkraft in die Tanks, in denen sie vergoren werden. Der Wein reift dann für 18 Monate in französischer Eiche.

- Notizen des Weinguts: „Château Rauzan-Ségla’s grand vin is crafted with infinite care and its grapes sourced from the main vineyards where the finest and, in particular, the old Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines
grow in perfectly worked soils. When the Cabernet Franc and the Petit Verdot are included in the blend, they add yet another layer of complexity to the wine. The vinification work is dictated by
our quest for precision. The use of small vats enables us to create a number of batches  corresponding to the increasingly carefully- demarcated plots. Everyone asks themselves the following question: what fruit is worthy of the Grand Vin? Selection is our obsession.“
