Beschreibung

- 92 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: On the plain of Saint-Emilion, this vineyard has produced a richly dense wine that also shows restraint and elegant tannins. The dominance of Merlot gives the bold black fruits and acidity. Wood aging adds spice and smoothness to the texture. This wine will be ready from 2024.“

- VINOUS, Neal Martin: „The 2018 Palais Cardinal, aged for 18 months in oak, has a bouquet similar to the Le Palatin, featuring plenty of brambly red fruit infused with orange blossom and distant Alpine aromas, all showing good delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins that frame dark berry fruit laced with cedar and mint, lending it an almost Left Bank personality. Displaying good length, and quite fresh and vibrant, this should give a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure.“

- JEB DUNNUCK: „A floral, perfumed, elegant Saint-Emilion, the 2018 Château Palais Cardinal offers up attractive red and blue fruits as well as notes of spring flowers and candied orange, medium-bodied richness, and light, silky tannins. This is one for those who love the lightly textured, almost understated, floral side to Bordeaux (without it coming across as skinny or under-fruited). It has plenty of character and should drink nicely for 7-8 years.“

- 92 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: „A tight, linear red with blueberry and raspberry aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, with firm, silky tannins and a fresh finish. Tight now. Needs two or three years to open. Try after 2024.“

Notizen des Weinguts: Chateau Palais Cardinal is our main wine. According to the traditional methods to make a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, we use a majority of Merlot, complete with Cabernet Sauvigon and Cabernet Franc. Aged during 18 month in oak barrels, the Palais Cardinal offers attractive black fruit ans incense notes on the well-defined bouquet. The palate is medium- bodied with a little oak on the entry, though it has an attractive supple texture, well-judged acidity and a comely, silky smooth finish. This long keeping wine is perfect to drink with red meat like beef ribs or duck.
