Meyney

Chateau Meyney wurde 1662 und gehört somit zu den ältesten Chateaux im Medoc. Heute gehört es zu CA Grands Crus unter der Leitung von Anne de Naour.

- Anne de Naour: „From my youth, immersed in the world of gastronomy beside my parents, to my studies as an agricultural engineer and oenologist, to the management of the Group’s properties, my passion for wine has never diminished. Not having been brought up in the vineyards, I went in search of experience – the Loire, Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Australia – before joining Bernard Magrez’s wine merchant company as Cellar Manager and then, soon afterwards, as Technical and Administrative Director. Nine years later, in 2010, I became technical director of the Crédit Agricole Group’s Bordeaux properties, and then deputy executive director in 2016. Since 2019, I have managed all the properties. How can one not be fascinated by this fruit of the earth, that Man transformed into wine, and which has evolved, over centuries of culture, to represent a way of life? This is a profession with so many possibilities and challenges!“

„Wishing no disrespect to Meyney, it is not a hip name to drop in Bordeaux circles, for several reasons. There is no illustrious history. A bank owns the property, not some grizzled winemaker who can trace viticultural ancestry back to medieval times. Meyney is no eye candy like Cos d’Estournel, and its wine is affordable, ergo not viewed as investment-grade material, which, bizarrely, some wine-lovers seek. Meyney never made it onto the 1855 classification.
And you know what?  All that is irrelevant if time and again Meyney produces a wine that in blind tastings not only performs admirably against more expensive peers but triumphs against all comers two years in a row. Conclusion? Something is happening at Meyney, and I had better investigate. As it turned out, I was in the nick of time, since my visit was the very last before COVID-19 eviscerated my diary. At the end of February 2020, I drove up to Saint-Estèphe to meet winemaker Anne Le Naour, explore more about Meyney’s history and the factors underlying its improvement… .“
