A Must Buy! Die hohe Punktezahl ist die gute Nachricht. Die schlechte; die Ernte ist extrem klein. Es liegt momentan 30 % weniger im Keller. Produktion total: 24'000 Flaschen. 18: Ein Kindermord mit Spassquofizient. Gebündelt, dicht, perfekt. Beweist seine Aufsteigerkondition!“

- 96 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: „The 2015 is an interesting blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon that saw a fair amount of whole clusters in the fermentation and 90% of the blend brought up in barrel and the rest in amphoras. Its deep purple color is followed by a beautiful perfumed of ripe currant and plums fruits, chocolate, ground herbs, and damp earth. With full-bodied richness, terrific ripeness, building tannin, and an underlying sense of elegance and purity that only grows with time in the glass, it needs 4-5 years of cellaring but is going to cruise in the cellar for 3-4 decades.“

- 97 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: „Very polished and poised with an immensely powerful core of tannin that drives incredible length on the palate. Fruits are deep in the dark-berry spectrum, encapsulating a terrific sense of freshness through the finish. Great wine. Try from 2024.“

- Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: „The 2015 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a blend of 44% Cabernet Franc, 32% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 24 months in 80% new and 20% one-year-old oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has pronounced notes of crushed black and red currants, warm blackberries and black pepper with touches of cedar chest, pencil lead and tilled soil. Medium-bodied, very fine and with plenty of black and red fruit layers, it has a plush backbone and seamless acid, finishing earthy.“

- 95 Punkte WINESPECTATOR, James Molesworth: „Dense and broad, with warm dark plum, fig and blackberry confiture flavors rolling over one another, backed by a broad swath of tar and roasted apple wood. This is packed with serious grip, featuring bramble, licorice snap and intense sweet tobacco notes on the back end, all of which combine with the fruit for a powerfully rendered finish. Distinct and impressive. Best from 2025 through 2040. 2,083 cases made.“

Notizen des Weinguts: This was a year… of incredible intensity! A year requiring the skills of a tightrope walker, when nature played games with the winegrowers. Solid in their vision of the place, present at all times, without respite, they played, shivered, imagined and ensured a commitment to the vine at all times. Passionate. Certain that this enthusiasm and these choices would be felt in the wines! The harvest began and the grapes showed all the richness of successful ripening, achieved slowly in cold conditions. The Cabernets excelled in performing their major role; character, juice, slender tannins. Here, the enclosed vineyard of Carmes and its micro-climate were an opportunity to be seized. An unprecedented harvest with successive sorting in the vineyard, then in the cellar, both negative and positive. The Cabernet Franc provides the blend with an introduction and a broad aromatic palette, which then takes the form of a wave, a juicy, breaking mass. Already, at this stage of ageing: smoked paprika, incense, violet, pine forest... And, a slightly more unusual note at Les Carmes, fresh blackberry. Micro-climate of the clos Intensity Acidulous Limestone Paprika, incense, violet Harvest dates: 23 September to 1 October 2021 Whole bunches: 45% Blend: 40% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot Analysis: 13.5% ABV - pH 3.60 Ageing (in progress): 70% new barrels, 20% new 18hl foudres, 10% amphoras 2021, in the background, we are working to decipher what makes the signature of Carmes wines. Our luck, our collective energy, the legacy. Formulas constantly reinvented so that, in detail, our definition of wines becomes clearer. Breaking down each action. Revealing the essentials of Carmes. The shape of the wine. The taste of the place. With immense joy, this approach brings us into contact with our roots, our winegrowers’ intuitions. Let us take up this quest for accuracy and brilliance, through all the modes of expression that we find!
