- 96-98 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE; Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "The 2020 Clinet (a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) has an opaque purple-black color, needing a little coaxing to unleash bold, powerful notes of plum preserves, blueberry compote and black raspberries, followed by suggestions of cracked black pepper, menthol, cedar chest and rose oil with a hint of licorice. The big, rich, full-bodied palate is a powerhouse, bursting with impactful black and blue fruit preserves flavors, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and fantastically perfumed."
- 95 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: "The 2020 Clinet is hugely impressive, as it was from barrel. Dark and imposing, with notable vibrancy, the 2020 offres up an exotic melange of black cherry, gravel, incense, plum, game and licorice. I would give this a few years in the bottle, as the tannins are pretty imposing. Cabernet Sauvignon is so distinctive here.”
- 94-96 Punkte FALSTAFF, Peter Moser: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Feine Edelholzwürze, zarte tabakige Nuancen, reife Herzkirschen, ein Hauch von Nougat, kandierte Mandarinenzesten, floraler Touch. Saftig, süße Textur, reife Pflaumen, elegant, seidige, reife Tannine, feine Fruchtsüße im Nachhall, mineralisch im Nachhall, sehr harmonisch, zeigt große Länge und Balance, sehr gute Zukunft."
- 95 Punkte DECANTER, Jane Anson: "Deep cherry damson red in colour, clear depth. Touches of kicking spice right from the start, I like the surprise of the battle between richness and bitterness. It feels like a heavy blanket of fruit which is burrowing down but then kicks off to let the air in alongside velvet stroking tannins, very Pomerol with coffee and chocolate. Feels confident and powerful, good stuff, if broad shouldered. A yield of 38 hl/ha. Will see at least 16 months in barrel. Tasted twice, also at Pomeol Seduction; and this is a big, seductive wine. Drinking Window 2029 – 2044"
- 17 Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON, Julia Harding: "Full bottle 1,360 g. Cask sample taken 6 April. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Vines 39 years old.
Very dark right to the purplish rim. Rich and sumptuous aroma of pure, sweet, black fruit, entwined with oak's sweet spice. Powerful and a little charry on the palate, the tannins thick and compact but already smooth. A big, alcoholic beast of a wine but ends with unexpected freshness, and, even with this high alcohol, just about in balance. Long, chewy finish. Wholesome, powerful."
- 96-98+ Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: "I continue to love the wines from this estate, and the 2020 Château Clinet is no exception. Straight-up sensational notes of blueberries, cassis, violets, tobacco, and earth all emerge from the glass, and this beauty is full-bodied, with a rich, concentrated mid-palate, flawless balance, and a great finish. It shows the tighter, fresher, more focused style of the vintage, yet it still brings plenty of mid-palate depth as well as an expansive texture. It has enough oak to warrant short-term bottle age but will have 25-30 years of overall longevity. This is a gorgeous wine."
- 98 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: "hat a beautiful young wine, showing so much finesse and tension, with ultra-fine tannins and subtle and long flavors and character. It’s medium-bodied with extremely silky tannins that grow on the palate to a seamless finish. Harmonious. Another fine Pomerol for the cellar. Drink after 2027.“
- 18,5+ Punkte WEINWISSER: "15 %-vol. Bouquet mit Veilchenparfüm, (über)reife schwarze Kirsche und Lakritze. Danach dunkle Schokotrüffel, dominikanischer Tabak und zarte Mentholnote. Am vielschichtigen Gaumen mit seidiger Textur, körnigem Extrakt, tiefgründiger Terroirwürze, stützender Rasse und durchtrainiertem Körper. Im Finale schwarzbeerigen Konturen, dunkles Graphit und sandige Adstringenz, kann noch zulegen."
- 19 Punkte Rene Gabriels BORDEAUX TOTAL, Andre Kunz: „Dichtes, samtenes, cremiges, fein opulentes Bouquet, Erdbeergelee, Pralinencreme, Kokos. Dichter, cremiger, fruchtiger Gaumen mit kräftiger, süsser Aromatik, dichter, samtener Struktur, kräftiger Frucht, viel feinem Tannin, sehr langer, dichter, frischer Abgang. 2026 - 2048“

Notizen des Weinguts: | •A plot of Merlot was removed at the end of 2019, resulting in a cultivated area of 9 hectares and an increased proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the vine population at 25%. •A vintage with relatively favourable weather conditions, marked by two paroxysmal phases: a very wet spring, then a long summer drought. •The grapes were small in size and in remarkable sanitary condition. They reached high levels of ripeness and very, very good levels of phenolic components and tannin, with record IPTs. •Harvest started on the 14th September - a week to ten days earlier than usual. •A consistent level of quality between grape varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the various plots that make up the terroir of Château CLINET. •An average vatting period of 28 days, delicate extraction of the phenolic components. Fermentation did not take longer than for previous vintages, proceeding smoothly. High total acidity levels, along with normal pH levels for our terroir, will guarantee the freshness of the wines of this vintage. •A majority of new barrels (80%), including traditional “barriques bordelaises” (225 litres) and large “Burgundy” barrels (500 litres), with the remaining 20% in second-fill barrels. •CLINET 2020 benefits from the hot summer, the restructuration of the vineyard and the more and more confirmed experience of the team. Probably one of the most accomplished CLINET since the Laborde family took over in 1999. CULTURAL METHODS • Grass cover between rows, throughout the vineyard • Under-vine ploughing • Horse-drawn ploughing on 15% of the vineyard • Sustainable viticultural practices and environmental approach • High leaf canopy (+175 cm) •Leaf removal: morning-sun side (3rd week of June 2020), afternoon-sun side (4th week of August 2020) • Green harvesting (from 29 June to 15 July, 2020) • Plot-by-plot harvest • WINEMAKING TECHNIQUES • Manual sorting • Stainless steel vats, perfectly designed to house the different plots of CLINET • Vats equipped with an alveolar, adjustable thermoregulation system • |
