Full-bodied, ample and layered, it's supple and perfumed, with a deep core of lively fruit, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This contains the highest proportion of Cabernet Franc of any of Stephan Von Neipperg's wines, which no doubt helps to account for its singular personality.“

Located at the foot of the Saint-Émilion's southern slope, Canon la Gaffelière's 20 hectares of vineyards are planted with some 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the balance being Merlot. Farming is certified organic, with thoughtful use of cover crops, agroforestry initiatives, unhedged canopies and late pruning. Macerations are long but gentle, and new oak is increasingly chosen for discretion over impact. The result is wines of textural sensuality and striking aromatic range, delivering all the fireworks that Cabernet Franc at full maturity can display. The 2019 has turned out brilliantly and will offer a broad drinking window.

The medium to full-bodied palate reveals an edifying intensity of electric blue and black fruit layers, supported by a rock-solid frame of firm, finely grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing long with a firework display of fruit, mineral and spicy nuances. A thrilling wine from the get-go and one that should age very well!"

Giving up awesome notes of red and black currants, tobacco, exotic flowers, cedarwood, and loamy earth, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, beautifully polished, integrated tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. This is serious juice that warrants at least 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 30 to 40 years.“ 2026-2067

Saftig, feine Fruchtsüße, reife Tannine, zarter Schokoladetouch im Abgang, ein harmonischer Speisenbegleiter, mineralischer Nachhall, sehr charmanter Stil.“

- 19+ Punkte WEINWISSER: "49 % Merlot, 39 % Cabernet Franc, 12 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 51 hl/ha. Undurchsichtiges Purpur mit schwarzer Mitte und lila Rand. Komplexes schwarzbeeriges Bouquet mit ganz viel schwarzen Johannisbeeren, Holundersaft und frischer Schattenmorellenkonfitüre. Im zweiten Ansatz betörende Veilchen, Sandelholz, Marokkominze und Nougatpralinen. Am eleganten Gaumen wie Samt und Seide mit butterweicher Textur, dann packt der Gigant zu und präsentiert seinen perfekt geformten Körper mit dichten Muskeln und kakaoartigem Tannin. Im gebündelten, langen Finale ein Feuerwerk von schwarzen Beeren, dunkler Mineralik, stützender Rasse und Olivenpaste. Das ist kein Frühcharmeur, der hat ein gewaltiges Lagerpotenzial und das katapultiert den Wein in die Spitzengruppe der Appellation!"
