- 94 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: "The 2016 Bourgneuf is composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Medium garnet-purple colored, it opens with very pretty notions of crushed red cherries, blackberry pie, wild blueberries and potpourri plus hints of tapenade, camphor and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a great intensity of perfumed black fruits, framed by rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and perfumed."
- 92-94 Punkte WINE ENTHUSIAST, Roger Voss: "Barrel Sample. A dense wine with ripe tannins. The fruit is there, although buried in the firm structure. It's good for the long term."
- 92 Punkte WINESPECTATOR, James Molesworth: "Fleshy, round and brimming with succulent cassis, raspberry and cherry compote flavors, delivering a big ball of fruit without being top-heavy, as light apple wood, rooibos tea and anise notes add cut and range on the finish. Best from 2022 through 2034. 2,400 cases made."
- 93 Punkte VINOUS, Neal Martin: "The 2016 Bourgneuf needs a lot of coaxing from the glass, eventually offering blackberry, briar and light cedar aromas. The medium-bodied palate displays grainy tannins and gentle grip. There is plenty of freshness and vitality here, the 15% Cabernet Franc lending a little spice toward the persistent finish. This is one of the best Bourgneuf wines I have encountered in recent years."
- 16,5+ Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON: "Deep purplish crimson. Lifted nose and really polished. Less dense than some. Elegant almost!"
- 17 Punkte Rene Gabriels BORDEAUX TOTAL, Andre Kunz: "Kunz Fassprobe 17: (85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc) Samtenes, süsses Bouquet, Erdbeeren, Nougat, Tabak, rote Lakritze. Seidener, eleganter Gaumen mit feiner Frucht, feingliedriger Struktur, gutem Tannin, kräftiger Aromatik, langer, kräftiger Abgang mit süssen Rückaromen. Kann noch zulegen."
- 91 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK: "A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from gravel, clay, and iron-rich soils, the 2016 Château Bourgneuf offers a medium-bodied, earthy style as well as moderate tannins, good concentration, and a firm, focused finish. Giving up notes of darker fruits, cedary herbs, and damp earth, it will be interesting to see if this fills out with short-term cellaring. At the moment, it's a rather firm and foursquare yet balanced effort. Hold off for 2-3 years, and it should keep for a decade or more."
- 93 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: "Very plush and attractive tannin texture and a wealth of rich dark plums and berries, make this an attractive wine for the vintage. Great focus and balance. Try from 2022."
- 16 Punkte VINUM: "Schwarze Beeren und Gewürze, seidig-dichtes Tannin, spürbare Eiche."
