This seems profoundly counterintuitive given the enormous influence wines like Tignanello have had on the very definition of vino italiano. Like the actor who never gets the Oscar, the dedicated winemaking team at Marchesi Antinori continues to focus fervently on the task at hand with an almost maniacal level of craftsmanship and swagger. General Manager Renzo Cotarella tells me months were dedicated to discussion surrounding a single barrique. It was one of more than 300 barrels that make up the 2015 Solaia, and consensus could not be reached on whether it should be included in the final blend or not. “Would one barrel have changed the final wine?” Mr. Cotarella asks. “Who knows? We had to work through the process to the very end."
