Lieber Max Mustermann,

„Can be brilliant, complex, supple, rich in fruit flavors and distinctively elegant, …“ schreibt JAMES LAUBE vom Winespectator in seinem Buch „California Wine“, allgemein über einen großen, kalifornischen Cabernet Sauvignon Klassiker:

LAUREL GLEN CABERNET SAUVIGNON SONOMA MOUNTAIN.

Die Geschichte des Weingutes geht sogar bis in die 1880er Jahre zurück. 1977 wurde das Gut von Patrick Campbell übernommen, der es mehr als 30 Jahre lang sehr erfolgreich leitete, ehe er es 2011 an Bettina Sichel verkaufte. Sichel, die bereits 20 Jahre Erfahrung in der kalifornischen Weinszene vorweisen kann, entstammt der Bordelaiser Familie Sichel (u. a. Chateau Palmer und Chateau d’Angludet). Sichel wird seither u. a. unterstützt vom Önologen David Ramey und Phil Coturri, ein Spezialist für die Umstellung auf biologischen Weinbau.

Master Sommelier Larry Stone schreibt über Laurel Glen sehr treffend: “Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon covering thirty years of production shows the incredible persistence of terroir and consistently high quality of the wines throughout the years. From the very beginning to the present day, all the wines show complexity, longevity classical proportions, regardless of the trends that have effected winemaking decisions along the way. Though Patrick Campbell has every reason to be proud of his legacy, it will be interesting to see what sensitivity the new regime, directed by Bettina Sichel, can bring to an already proven site.”

The flavors are as intricate as a tapestry, weaving together black currants, blueberries, plums, cocoa, macaroons, spices and sweet oak. Thoroughly dry, this is great Laurel Glen. Decant now; drinkable through at least 2015."

seltener gereifter Jahrgang von großartiger Qualität, der jetzt traumhaft schön zu trinken ist, aber auch noch einige Jahre reifen kann, vor kurzem verkostet, Parker hatte im April 1995 mit der Einschätzung des Weines völlig Recht:

94-96 Punkte Robert Parker WINE ADVOCATE (bewertet im April 1995): "This blockbuster, backward 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon rivals Girard's Reserve as one of the most powerful, tannic wines of the vintage, but there is more sweetness and a higher level of concentration and ripe fruit in the Laurel Glen offering, making its aging potential less risky. This is a huge, massive, herb, blackcurrant/black-cherry, smoky, chocolatey wine with gobs of fruit, eye-popping extract levels, and mouthsearing tannin. Based on this barrel sample, my best guess for the wine's anticipated maturity is between 2002-2025. Impressive! But patience is definitely required. Laurel Glen has been producing one dazzling effort after another, especially since 1990. The wines are agonizingly difficult to find in the marketplace."

Just delightful for drinking over the next four years, and a great value.”

95 Punkte Meredith May, THE TASTING PANEL: “This garnet-purple beauty, the first effort from winemaking team Randall Watkins and consultant David Ramey, offers up dry tannins and minerality. The palate opens up to a spreading brownie cake melt-away effect along the tongue . . . Power and beauty play together in counterpoint.”
