- 94 Punkte VINOUS Antonio Galloni: "Di Costanzo's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is elegant, polished and refined for such an intense wine, but it also needs time to recover from its recent bottling. A classic Coombsville Cabernet built on nuanced mineral and savory notes, the 2014 is absolutely gorgeous today. Time in the glass brings out black stone fruit, sage, gravel and smoke nuances. Naturally, the 2014 is not as explosive as the 2013 (that would have been impossible), but it possesses striking finesse and impeccable overall balance. The 2014 comes across as a bit riper than the 2013, but the Di Costanzo house style is very much in evidence. Massimo Di Costanzo adds that he picked at a bit higher sugars in 2014 because the large crop need a bit more time to reach the optimal level of balance on the vine. Readers should give the 2014 at least a few years in bottle.

MASSIMO DI COSTANZO IS ONE THE MOST PROMISING YOUNG WINEMAKERS IN NAPA VALLEY TODAY. Production is tiny and limited to just one wine, a Cabernet from the Farella Vineyard in Coombsville. With the 2016 vintage, Di Costanzo has added a Cabernet from the Rafael Vineyard in Oak Knoll. A tank sample I tasted of that wine suggests Di Costanzo will soon have two top-tier wines in his lineup."

Notizen des Weinguts: The Farella Vineyard in Coombsville is the birthplace of Di Costanzo. The 26 acre vineyard benefits from its west-facing, volcanic hillsides bathed in warm, afternoon sun, making it amongst the warmest sites in the traditionally temperate appellation. The vineyard, composed of red gravelly tufa, sits on a base of volcanic ash and is farmed meticulously and sustainably by the Farella family. The Farella Vineyard has been in production since the late 1970s and has the oldest known Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Coombsville. All of these characteristics combine to create the ideal conditions for an estate wine of proven longevity, purity, and place.
